Moro. 10:32
Yea, come unto Christ, and be
perfected in him, and deny yourselves
of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny
yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God
with all your might, mind and strength,
then is his grace sufficient for you, that by
his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and
if by the grace of God ye are perfect in
Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power
of God.
Hymn #117, “Come Unto Jesus”
Sonnet 518 Reflections on Moroni 10:32
By Tom Matkin August
I wonder when I’m tried for my reward
Will someone testify at that great trial
“Regarding his ungodliness my Lord
The prisoner, I fear, is in denial.”
Perhaps before I have to take my turn
Before I reach that final judgment scene
I’d better take the trouble to discern
Just what “deny yourself” might really mean.
For those who don’t deny themselves, I see,
From looking closely at this verse of writ
Deny the power of God to some degree
And lose the perfect promises of it.
So what you do and don’t deny depends
Upon your choice of your eternal ends.
