Re: Size of packed Moulton Bicyle  CYCLE-@aol.com

Lynn,

I have a similar Moulton APB S7 I use. If the original flat bars are used
and the mudguards removed it's quick and fairly easy to put in a 26 inch case
like the photo.

The largest section is the front fork top to bottom with handle bar stem
removed. It will need to be placed in the case diagonally.
Remove Bar and stem,
Remove front mudguard
remove pedal,
Remove seatpost and saddle.
Split Frame
Remove rear forks
Leave rear wheel in place (Mudguard may fit)
Removing and cleaning chain is helpful
Pad the frame with pipe insulation cut to fit to minimize denting.

When packed nothing should move or rattle when the case is violently shaken.
Extra suitcase nylon compression straps will keep the case from springing
open with contents spilling.

Mark case as follows:
Contents; Delicate Industrial Prototype.
If hand inspection is needed please call me (list your name with cell phone)
or page me by name in the airport and I will repackage to avoid damage and
legal responsibility or words to that effect. Thank you for your understanding.

Hints:

You may need to remove the right hand crank arm as
Don't forget to include tools to reassemble.
Pack some additional spare parts like the rear spring mounting screws,
mudguard fittings and spare chain master links. They are a common hardware items.
You will need to slot the cable slots on the frame so the cables can be
removed without tampering with the clamp adjustment. Use a small file, hacksaw or
dremel tool or all three. An additional cable splitter may facilitate this.
New bikes come pre fitted like this.

Make your preparations early to keep your blood pressure low. I'd allow two
weeks in case you need to source items.

I hope this is of value.

Yours in Cycling,

Gilbert Anderson
