List Name Trials - Mountain Bike Trials Riding (mtb-trials)
Purpose: The mtb-trials list exists primarily to exchange information about mountain bike trials riding.

        While the vast majority of the public may only be familar with
trials riders seen on late night talk shows, there exists a small but
dedicated group of individuals participating in sport thoughout the world.

        Typically, a trials bike can be classified as either a modified bike
or a stock bike.

        The modified bike usually has smaller wheels and a single speed.

        A stock bike is virtually identical to its 26" inch wheel cousin,
perhaps with slight modification to the drivetrain to prevent impact damage.

        Trials riders participate in a highly technical sport, not
of speed, but of strength and finesse. The goals may include riding
over strange obstacles such as large logs, pallets, automobiles, or
even small houses, among other things.

        Topics for the list include
* equipment questions

        Such as : What does this thing do?
                  Is this product good?
                  What are the specs on this product?
                  How much does this typically cost?

* technique questions

        Such as: What is a drop in?
                 How do I do no handed rear wheel hops?
                 Why would I do no hand rear wheel hops?

* competition announcements

        Such as: When is the next contest?
                 Where is a good place to ride around NYC?
                 Who won the world Championships?

* social aspects of the sport

        Such as: Is the sport portrayed badly in the media?
                 How do we help the sport to grow?

* buy/sell

        Such as: Where to buy equipment?
                 Used equipment for sale by listmembers

        NOTE: At this time, commercial advertising is highly
               discouraged. What is commercial advertising?

              1) The seller is a business

              2) The content, if contained in a magazine or a newspaper,
                 would obviously not be general information, or a product
                 announcement, but would be specifically geared toward
                 encouraging buying the mentioned products.

              This does not preclude sharing product information, or sources
              for products, but attempts to limit unsolicited sales pitches
              from whatever the source.
