BLACK SOLIDARITY DAY TURNS 40!

RALLY FOR ASSATA AND SUNDIATA!

On Monday, November 2nd, observe the 30th anniversary of the =20
liberation of Assata Shakur and the 40th anniversary of Black =20
Solidarity Day with a special unity rally for Assata and Sundiata at =20
the Federal Bldg in Newark at 12 noon.

This rally will be hosted by the New Black Power Movement which =20
includes the New Black Panther Party, Frontline Artists and a host of =20=

other organizations and figures. The federal building is located at =20
Broad and Court Streets, downtown Newark.

Black Solidarity Day was conceived by Prof. Carlos Russell of =20
Brooklyn. It was inspired by the Black Theatre Classic play, A Day of =20=

Absence by Douglass Turner Ward, a critically acclaimed play about the =20=

disorienting consequences of the sudden =91absenting=92 of Black people =20=

from a small southern town. Done in whiteface, the play satirically =20
asserts that Black withdrawal from the economy can be a powerful tool =20=

for change.

On November 2nd, 1979, Black Solidarity Day took on incredibly took on =20=

historic and mythic dimensions as Assata Shakur, then incarcerated at =20=

Clinton Correctional Facility, was sprung from prison by heroic =20
participants in the Black Liberation Army, the Underground Railroad of =20=

the 1970s. She later found asylum in Cuba where she still lives to =20
this day.

=93This was our institutional exercise of the practice of withdrawal,=94 =
=20
said Zayid Muhammad, the Party=92s national minister of culture and =20
longtime supporter of Shakur. =93I have always maintained that the =20
Million Man March should have taken place on that day, instead of =20
October 16th .=94

Her codefendant, Sundiata Acoli ,comes up for parole in 2010 after =20
being imprisoned since 1973.

RALLY FOR MUMIA AT THE JUSTICE DEPT!

On Thursday, November 12th, supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal, the =20
incredible =91Voice of the Voiceless,

Will steamroll into Washington, D.C. to the Justice Department, =20
demanding the Justice Department take over the imperiled journalist=92s =20=

case in the interests of justice.

 For years, Abu-Jamal=92s lawyers and supporters have been =20=

trying to get new exculpatory evidence of the case into court. =20
However, former President Clinton implemented the Expedited Death =20
Penalty Act in 1996 to limit the chances of death row defendents to =20
appeal their cases based on new evidence. The courts have used this =20
ruling and other bogus legal devices to prevent any new evidence or =20
any outstanding constitutional issues from truly being heard.

 Zayid Muhammad of the New Black Panther Party will =20
participate with the NY delegation.

 There will be a 11am press conference and 1:30pm rally =20
and presentation of papers to the Justice Department.

 The letters and rally are to demand that a full civil =20
rights investigation be launched with regards to the case.

 This incredible effort comes against the background of =20
the Philadelphia DA seeking to reinstate Mumia=92s death sentence.

 On Saturday, November 14th, the Sundiata Acoli Freedom =20
Campaign, along with a host of others, including the New Black Panther =20=

Party=92s national minister of culture Zayid Muhammad, will host a =20
fundraising dance to benefit the elder freedom fighter, now in his =20
36th year of wrongful incarceration.

 The proceeds will aid his efforts to secure parole in 2010.

 This fulfilling event called =91Freedom Dance for Assata =20=

and Sundiata,=92 will take place at the Martin Luther King Labor Center, =
=20
310 West 43rd Street in Manhattan.

 Doors open at 7pm.

A NIGHT FOR CUBA!

 On Wednesday, November 18th, the New Black Panther Party =20=

will host a special teach-in on Cuba!

 The event is simply being called =91A Night for Cuba! A =20
Night for Assata, Sundiata, Cuba and the Cuban 5ive! When Afrika =20
Called, Cuba Answered!=92

 It will take place at Waset Kommuniversity, 271 So. 9th =20
Street, Newark.

 Special guests for the evening will be Prof. Sam =20
Anderson, the author of the critically acclaimed Black Holocaust For =20
Beginners and Jersey=92s own Rev.Lucius Walker who has been withstanding =

a prosecution by the Treasury Department for his coordination of the =20
US-Cuba Friendshipment Caravan whereby millions of tons of =20
humanitarian aid have been delivered to Cuba in spite of the age-old =20
travel embargo. As an act of civil disobedience, the Caravan has done =20=

so annually since the 1990s.
