-------------------------------------------------------------------

For those who have not gone before....

1. Passport and/or WA DOT Special Driver's License to cross border into Canada & back is required.

2. Try to leave no later than 130p-2p from Seattle as the border crossings can be backed up with people going skiing, etc... and you want to not hassle with rush hour traffic. I got back most nights by midnight-ish. That included a stop for a sandwich on the way home. ?Approx 3 hrs drive time.

3. You need USA Cycling International License to race. ?Domestic License does not work or have coverage. ?Cost about $100 extra over the $60 you already pay for domestic. www.usacycling.org

4. Gearing is WAY smaller than what we use at Marymoor... like the Pro/1/2 men ride an 88" for racing. ?Your legs will tell you that's the way to go.

5. Tires need to be soft & supple... not hardened like after a summer at Marymoor. ?You can try sandpaper to "soften" older tires, but I would advise to just get a new set. ?There is also a tire softener that you can buy for drag racing slicks... but I have not tried that.

6. Bring cool weather riding clothes, even though you are inside. ?The building is not really heated, so if it's cold outside, know that arm and leg warmers will be needed inside if you chill easily. ?Facilities have showers to clean up before heading home.

7. Categories are often: A - Elite men, B riders (elite women, masters, elite juniors), C riders - new riders

8. Rules are UCI - which can differ slightly than USAC... not that you should ever have to consider what the difference is. ?But just know that the difference exists. ?You can google UCI rulebook and/or read online or at www.uci.ch

9. ?$20 CASH covered my entry last year, per night. ?I am not sure that they take credit card or personal checks, so stop at an ATM at least before you get the track. ?They take US dollars, but if you have any $CAN, I would use that to save them the exchange hassles.

10. ?The Burnaby crew is great and willing to help where they can. ?Please feel free to ask them questions before, during and after... they realize what a facility they have and how lucky they are to race indoors in the PNW.

11. ?Also - There are "highlights" to the season at Burnaby. ?Fall Challenge in Nov, the 3-day meet between Christmas and New Year's, and Spring Challenge in March-ish(?). ?Going up on a regular night of racing is best practice before just showing up for these special events. ?Knowing the lay of the land is very helpful. ?Links to these specials are/will be on the burnabyvelodrome.ca website. ?They use Karelo.com for online registration for those nights (in the past anyway.)

Stewart Bowmer from Bellingham (Fanatik Bike) is trying to schedule some classes for those that want to at least go and ride, even if they do not race.?

More to follow, if you and your team are interested...
