Categories for mountain bike season  Andrew F Rizzo

MWCCC,

I hope most people are aware of the 2008 rules on
collegiate categories. I want to make sure everyone
is aware that they will apply in the fall's mountain
bike season. This will be similar to the road season
so hopefully many of you understand how it works and
so I will not go into too many details here.

Every rider MUST race the category on their collegiate
license. If your license does not show the correct
category, you must request an upgrade before the
season starts. Similar to the road season, your
collegiate mountain bike categories are determined
based on your USA Cycling mountain bike categories.

Rules on how the collegiate categories relate to the
non-collegiate ones are in the collegiate rulebook
(http://www.usacycling.org/forms/collegiate/collegiate_rulebook.pdf)
and the rules on upgrading your non-collegiate
categories are in the USA Cycling rules
(http://www.usacycling.org/forms/USAC_rulebook.pdf).

You can find answers to some questions at
http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=3314.
Also, feel free to ask me any other questions.

Of particular note is that riders who want to compete
in gravity events at nationals must be able to upgrade
to A and then meet the eligibility requirements.
Collegiate rule 11.8.11 describes what racing must be
done as an A to race gravity events at nationals. The
proposed conference calendar only has four gravity
events (Mizzou, Lindsey Wilson, Bulter, and Purdue.)
Anyone hoping to race at nationals must be an A before
the Butler event to be eligible which only leaves two
conference events in which to upgrade.   Riders
needing to upgrade to race at nationals should
consider getting the necessary results before the
start of the conference season.

Again, let me know if you have any questions.

-Andrew
