Ever since the beginning of recorded history, The Erasmus Debating
Society has hosted DAPDI, at our University in Rotterdam, the
Netherlands. This year’s DAPDI has a nice tradition to build on: our
yearly five day summer course featuring 3 days of top level debating
workshops and a 2 day tournament (the serious bit) topped with one of
the most amazing evening programmes on the debating circuit (the fun
bit). This year’s DAPDI will be held from 3-7 July.
We will fly in tutors from the Oxford Union in the UK. They give the
workshops and judge the tournament. All debaters are placed in a group
of 8-12 people with similar debating experience. Whether you’ve already
won a few IV’s, or never debated before: DAPDI has something for you to
learn. This year's tutors will be Gavin Illsley, Richard Goodman, Will
Jones, Will Sharp and Rose Grogan (more info).
But, that’s not all yet: our famous evening programme will include a
visit to the Baja Beach Club, watching the world cup semi-finals in our
own private room in the local Irish pub, a BBQ and much, much more.
Now, for those of you who don’t have friends in Rotterdam whose
hospitality you can abuse: We’ve arranged a boy scouts place from Monday
till Thursday night. It has it’s own bar and probably equally important:
BEDS! Places in this accommodation are however limited and will be
distributed on a first come first served basis. If needed, we will
provide international participants with additional crash on sunday
and/or friday (this will not be in the boy scouts place, but in some
nice students place). Please note that crash on sunday and friday is
meant to be additional and is only available to Dutch students in
exceptional circumstances.
Thanks to our sponsors DAPDI costs only €80, with an additional charge
of €7,50 per night for accommodation. The €80 includes the workshops,
all meals and parties. Of course, we’ll do anything we can to help our
international guests out with visa requirements etc. Please register
before June 16th. By that date we will inform the restaurants, boy
scouts place, etc how many of us there will be. Registration is still
open after this date, but we may not be able to provide you with a place
in the restaurants, etc.
