TIME FOR A BREAK...
__________________________________

WELCOME to our new subscribers. I am very pleased
to report that we have some and hope you will all enjoy
this issue.

Not-so newbies should skip the first article, as you
probably know more about PC 'filing' than I do! Perhaps
Faxing On Your Computer and Have Speakers - Will Sound
Off will have more appeal.

I can personally vouch for the fax program Maureen Fleury
recommends as it is the one I use, having tried plenty.
Believe me, it is really simple. Unfortunately I can't follow
up Tom Glander's suggestions right now, as my PC did
not come equipped with a microphone, but it sounds like fun.

If you too are feeling a bit deprived because you can't have
everything that opens and shuts on a PC, then Success
With a 1930's Computer will definitely inspire you.

Some of you may have had problems getting to
http://www.newbiesandnitwits.com recently because
the host's new server and system threw up a heap of
initial glitches. However everything is almost back to
normal so please try again.   Please let me know
if you come across any missing links and so forth. I'd
rather the shortcomings were reported by friends!

GET ON TOP OF THAT FILING
____________________________________

OF course you hate filing - everyone with any sense
at all loathes it - but the advent of computers and PC's
has made it easier, if you make the most of the facilities
they offer.

When I acquired my first PC (without any prior tuition) I
simply regarded it as a replacement typewriter and it was
months before I realised this was also an ultra-efficient filing
cabinet. From there it was a fairly short step to getting
my mind-set right.

In the bad old typewriter days one completed one's work
and then put the carbon copy somewhere to file much
later - usually when the filing pile had reached alarming
proportions. With a PC you actually sort out the filing
fiasco BEFORE you do the work.

Before starting to type a new document open the File menu
in the top toolbar and you will see Save and Save As. This
requires a little thought but in the first instance one should
invariably click on Save As when starting off because this is
your chance to put your work in the right place - once and
for all.

Your PC will already have a My Documents folder and this is
the best place to put your work, until you become more ambitious.
However if you simply save everything in My Documents you
will soon find you have created another filing disaster. The solution
is to create extra folders, within My Documents, which is
simple to do - fortunately.

So click on Save As and when the dialogue box appears find
My Documents in the drop down menu on the bar at the top.
Then click on the Create New Folder icon which will be to the
right of the 'My Documents' text. The new folder can then be
seen with the words 'New Folder' highlighted. Press the delete
key and type in the name of your new folder - what about My
Letters? Then press enter, double click on the renamed folder
and My Letters will replace the My Documents text in the top bar.

Decide on a name for the new document you have just opened
and type this in the bar labelled File Name. Then click Save and
close the dialogue box. Remember to save what you are working on,
frequently, and it will be filed away in the place you have selected.
This is where Save in the File Menu comes into action.

The next time you are typing a personal letter save it in your My Letters
folder by clicking Save As in the File Menu, and finding the relevant
folder. Be sure to type in a new file name for your new letter.

To add to or alter an existing file click File and then Open. The dialogue
box will appear, select My Documents from the drop down menu, find My
Letters in the list below and double click so it replaces My Documents in the
top bar. Then select the file you want and click Open.

Perhaps you don't want to save everything in My Documents? You dont
have to. Using the Save As dialogue box and its drop
down menu simply select where you want to put the new
folder and then create it. Alternatively click on your My Computer
icon (usually on your desktop), click on File, then New, then Folder.

Don't panic if you can't remember where you put one of those
new folders. Simply open your Start menu and click Find then
File/Folder. In the dialogue box type in the name of the missing
file or folder and click Find.

And the good news is that this clever little thing will usually find
the missing item - even if you can't remember the name, exactly.
However to be on the safe side it might be a good idea to jot the
new names down in a notebook.

FAXING ON YOUR COMPUTER
by Maureen Fleury
____________________________________

I'M in the process of job hunting and if you have
done this lately, you will notice that most employers
are asking people to fax their resumes. Some companies
will give you an email address and very few will give you
a snail mail address.

If you are sending out several resumes a day, it is a bother to
run to the local store to fax them out. Yes, you could buy a fax
machine but would you be able to justify the cost? I found a
solution. All you need is your computer and a modem with
faxing capabilities (cable or DSL modems won't work)

I did a search on the Internet for PC faxing programs and I
found one that was easy to use and doesn't charge per call.
(except for long distance calls). I was cautioned that some
programs re-route your transmission to a switching centre
and that can incur additional costs even if it's a local call.

The program I finally selected is called Mighty Fax. Just like
any fax machine, this program only charges you for long
distance calls. You can send a cover sheet and set up an
address book for your frequently called numbers. Unfortunately,
Mighty Fax does not allow batching of faxes (i.e.group
transmissions).

You can also set this program to accept incoming faxes.
One word of caution. If your modem is hooked up to your
residential/business phone line and you have the program
in 'waiting for incoming fax' mode, all incoming phone calls
cannot go through. Your computer will try to translate the
incoming call into a faxed message.

In addition, if you use the modem for internet access, you
won't be able to go online if you have your program set in
'receive' mode. If you are frequently accepting faxes, it is highly
recommended to get a second phone line.

What I like about this program is that I can create a document in
MS Word and transmit it without exiting. It is handy because it
eliminates the need to retrieve the document. All you do is choose
Mighty Fax as your printer and that will invoke the program. Apparently,
this program can be launched from a variety of Windows applications.

When you want to send a fax, a popup screen appears for you to
enter in the destination fax number.

When you click on the 'send fax now' button, another screen will
appear and ask if you want to create a cover page. By selecting
'yes', you will be shown a menu of cover pages to choose from.
Fill in the cover page and then proceed with faxing the cover page
and document.

If the fax fails or the recipients's line is busy, you will be notified
of the status. It will also go into retry if the line is busy.

Mighty Fax will keep a record of your all outgoing faxes and the
status of the transmission.

The program is downloadable on the internet from RKS Software.
The program is available for a 30-day free trial and if you decide to
keep it, you pay $19.95 US. The trial software is actually the full
version so you don't have to do a second download after the 30
days. All you do is purchase the registration key.

Unlike some trial programs, there is no limit as to the number of
faxes you can send.

For the person who is sending single faxes or doesn't care about
having a huge library of pre-made cover sheets, then this program
is ideal. Other programs which are more expensive have all the
bells and whistles.

Mighty Fax is inexpensive, easy to use, and saves you the cost of
buying a fax machine.

HAVE SPEAKERS, WILL SOUND OFF
says Tom Glander
___________________________________

DOES your system have a sound card and speakers? Did it
come with a microphone? If yes, let's have some fun!

You can make your computer say anything when it starts up and
shuts down, or when you click on some item... all you need to
do is record your voice. First, let's do the recording, then
we'll set up the sounds later.

I'm sticking with the recording stuff that comes with Windows.
If you have some other sound recorder, you can use it.

1. Open the Sound Recorder. It's under Start, Programs,
Accessories, Entertainment.

2. With your microphone hooked up, click the red round dot
on the far right side. This is the record button.

3. Say a few words, then stop the recorder by clicking the
square Stop button next to the Record button.

4. Save the file (click File, Save As, and give it a name.)
Save it in your Documents folder, under My Recordings. If
there's no folder named My Recordings, you can create the
folder, or just save the file in My Documents for now.

You can record phrases, words, anything. Add music if you
want. If you're into telephone answering machine messages,
hook up your answering system to your computer. (Now that's
a tricky one!)

Remember, a 'document' is not just a word document. It can
be a picture, a sound, a spreadsheet, whatever. In the purest
terms, a document may be written words... but in computer
parlance, it's more.

The sound recorder is a lot of fun. My three-year-old nephew
grabbed the microphone and said, 'See ya later, dude.' His
dad has saved those words for his shutdown message.

Trevor is now 10 years old. But the 'see ya later, dude'
is still only three years old. And will be forever. Maybe you'll
save your kids voices or grandkids voices forever. Just
record them onto your computer... it's a ton of fun!

Note: The sound recorder has a 60 second limit. That's way
more than you'll need for simple voice work. And by the
way, 60 seconds of sound during my test took up 1.2 megabytes
of disk space. You can record a LOT of sound and still have
room to spare. So have fun with this! You can always delete the
files later if you find you aren't using them.

How to Install Your Own Sound Files

Now that we hav reorded our own sounds what do we do with
them? Lets attach them to events in the Sounds Properties
window. Here's how...

1. Open the Sounds Properties dialog box. You'll find it as
an icon in the Control Panel, named 'Sounds'.

2. Highlight the line item named 'Close program' by clicking
on it once. The 'Name:' field comes alive. You can select
from pre-existing sounds there, but we're going to browse
for our new sound.

3. Click the 'Browse...' button, and navigate to your My
Documents folder, and select your new sound. The speaker
will appear in the Preview box if you had no sounds selected
previously.

4. Preview the sound by clicking the right arrow button in
the Preview area. Like what you hear? Okay!

5. Click the Apply button. Select another Event, attach
a new sound, click Apply, until you've set up all the sounds
you want.

6. Click the OK button to put the dialog box away.

The Details button will give you additional details on the
sound file you select. In the Schemes field, you can choose
from existing sound schemes, if they exist on your system.

Going back to Trevor... his 'See ya later, dude' sound was
attached to the Exit Windows event. Every time his dad shuts
down the computer, Trevor's voice is heard.

'See ya later, dude.'

HINT FOR HOTMAIL-ERS
Information supplied by Topica
______________________________________

IT was recently reported in the What's New at Topica
newsletter that some Hotmail users were having their
Topica mail filtered as 'junk mail'.

Topica hosts this ezine, Newbies, Nerds & Nitwits, and
I would hate to think it was going straight into someone's
Trash Can! (The trouble is that if this happening the
Hotmailer concerned is never going to read this message.)
However, hoping for the best, I have decided to include
the following tip from Topica.

'Some Hotmail subscribers wrote in to say they hadn't been
receiving email from their Topica lists. After some investigation,
we think the problem may be the result of a new Hotmail feature
that filters mailing list mail into a 'junk mail' folder.

'If you're having trouble receiving mail from a Topica mailing list,
try this:

* Log into your Hotmail account
* At the 'Options' page, select 'Mail Handling.' (The 'Options' tab
can be found at the top of your account page, next to the
'Address Book' tab.)
* In the appropriate fields, type in the name of the mailing list
you want to receive in your Inbox.

'Example: If you want to receive your subscription to What's New
in your Inbox instead of your junk mail folder, you would need to
enter the email address of the What's New mailing list, or
ne-@topica.com.

'Hotmail users can also contact Hotmail support for
questions or issues related to this feature.'

SUCCESS WITH A 1930'S COMPUTER
by Dominic Koklas
_________________________________________

I'LL never forget the day that my brother, who runs up
his own department in a major software company, came
to my house with a box full of computer parts. He told me
it was time that I got with the program and join the twentieth
century.

He built this computer right in front of my eyes. I'm using it
now to write this article. It consisted of spare parts he picked
up from work. It's slow but it works for me. I have worked on-line
using this '1930's' computer ( his words) for years.

I did not have a clue on how to use this thing. So I made plenty
of phone calls to my very patient brother. I was fast becoming a
thorn in his side. I'm sure he asked himself more than once 'why
in the world did I give him this computer'. But I quickly began to
pick up on how to operate my fascinating new 'toy'.

I had the basics down. It was now time to get connected to the world.
When I opened my first dial-up account I was so excited I could hardly
contain myself. I was bothering everyone I knew with, 'Are you on-line?
You have to check out this site! Hey what's your email address?' I
joined chat rooms and surfed around aimlessly. Then, like a bolt of
lightning from cyber space it hit me!

I recieved a slice of spam in my email. The subject line jumped out at me
like a revelation. It simply said, 'Work from Home with Your Computer, Earn
Big Money!' Something like that anyway. It was some so-called biz-op.
Some get rich quick trick.

It opened up a whole new world for me. No more hard labor. No more nine
to five ( it actually was more like nine to nine). This was my focus now.
Money making opportunities. My head was spinning from all the seemingly
perfect opportunities out there.

I jumped all over the place. From one 'opp' to another. I joined every
affiliate and MLM company I could find. I lost a lot of money. I got
bruised, burned, and bit! But...I learned a lot and never gave up!

I kept telling myself that if they could do it, so could I.
I pressed foward. I got smarter. I looked for opportunities that
were right for me. I learned to sift through all the hype and find
the programs that I would be able to work.

The important thing to note here is that I never gave up. I never quit.
I fell flat on my face more times then I would like to remember. But I just
got up, brushed myself off and kept going. I didn't care what anyone said.
I would not give up. I would make it happen.

Shakespeare wrote, 'That has not half the power to harm me, as I have
connected with action. Successful men keep moving. They make
mistakes, but they don't quit.'

This is how you make it to the end of the road to success.
Get hurt..Don't Quit!

Hit a stumbling block..Keep Moving!

So in the end, it's not the capital that you have to work with or the
speed of your computer, it's the 'not quitting' that counts.

I'm doing just fine with my '1930s' computer.....

Organize Your Menus

Organize your Start Menu! As you add more software
to your computer, much of it goes into the Program
Files folder. These programs are found on the Start,
Programs menu. And they're not alphabetical! So, to
organize things, click Start, Programs, and on the list
that opens, right click anywhere. On the context menu
that appears, click 'Sort by Name'. Just like that, the
list will be sorted by name, making things much easier
to find.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
More organization

The fastest, easiest way to access the properties of a file
or folder is to right click and select Properties. Try it.
If the item you are interested in learning more about has
a Property Sheet (like a packing list so to speak), you'll
see a line item named 'Properties'. Click... and see what
you find!

proportions.  With a PC you actually sort out the filing<br>
fiasco BEFORE you do the work.<br><br>
Before starting  to type a new document open the File menu<br>
in the top toolbar and  you will see Save and Save As.  This <br>
requires a little thought but in the first instance one should<br>
invariably click on Save As when starting off because this is<br>
your chance to put your work in the right place - once and<br>
for all.<br><br>
Your PC will already have a My Documents folder and this is<br>
the best place to put your work, until you become more ambitious.<br>
However if you simply save everything in My Documents you<br>
will soon find you have created another filing disaster.  The solution<br>
is to create extra folders, within My Documents, which is<br>
simple to do - fortunately.  <br><br>
So click on Save As and when the dialogue box appears find<br>
My Documents in the drop down menu on the bar at the top. <br>
Then click on the  Create New Folder icon which will be to the<br>
right of the 'My Documents' text.  The new folder can then be<br>
seen with the words 'New Folder' highlighted.  Press the delete<br>
key and type in the name of your new folder - what about My<br>
Letters?  Then press enter,  double click on the renamed folder<br>
and My Letters will replace  the My Documents text in the top bar.<br><br>
Decide on a name for the new document you have just opened<br>
and type this in the bar labelled File Name.  Then click Save and<br>
close the dialogue box. Remember to save what you are working on,<br>
frequently, and it will be filed away in the place you have selected.<br>
This is where Save in the File Menu comes into action.  <br><br>
The next time you are typing a personal letter save it in your My Letters<br>
folder by clicking Save As in the File Menu, and finding the relevant<br>
folder. Be sure to type in a new file name for your new letter.<br><br>
To add  to or alter an existing file click File and then  Open.  The dialogue<br>
box will appear, select My Documents from the drop down menu, find My<br>
Letters in the list below and double click so it replaces My Documents in the<br>
top bar.  Then select the file you want and click Open. <br><br>
Perhaps you don't want to save everything in My Documents? You dont<br>
have to.  Using the Save As dialogue box and its drop<br>
down menu simply select where you want to put the new<br>
folder and then create it. Alternatively click on your My Computer<br>
icon (usually on your desktop), click on File, then New, then Folder.<br><br>
Don't panic if you can't remember where you put one of those<br>
new folders.  Simply open your Start menu and click Find then<br>
File/Folder.  In the dialogue box type in the name of the missing<br>
file or folder and click Find.  <br><br>
And the good news is that this clever little thing will usually find<br>
the missing item - even if you can't remember the name, exactly.<br>
However to be on the safe side it might be a good idea to jot the<br>
new names down in a notebook.<br><br>

<b>FAXING ON YOUR COMPUTER<br>
by Maureen Fleury<br>
____________________________________<br><br>
</b>I'M in the process of job hunting and if you have<br>
done this  lately, you will notice that most employers<br>
are asking people to fax their resumes. Some companies<br>
will give you an email address and very few will give you<br>
a snail mail address.<br><br>
If  you are sending out several resumes a day, it is a bother to<br>
run to the local store to fax them out. Yes, you could buy a fax<br>
machine but would you be able to justify the cost? I found a<br>
solution. All you need is your computer and a modem with<br>
faxing capabilities (cable or DSL modems won't work)<br><br>
I did a search on the Internet for PC faxing programs and I<br>
found one that was easy to use and doesn't charge per call.<br>
(except for long distance calls). I was cautioned that some<br>
programs re-route your transmission to a switching centre<br>
and that can incur additional costs even if it's a local call.<br><br>
The program I finally selected is called Mighty Fax. Just like<br>
any fax machine, this program only charges you for long<br>
distance calls. You can send a cover sheet and set up an<br>
address book for your frequently called numbers. Unfortunately,<br>
Mighty Fax does not allow batching of faxes (i.e.group<br>
transmissions).<br><br>
You can also set this program to accept incoming faxes.<br>
One word of caution. If your modem is hooked up to your<br>
residential/business phone line and you have the program<br>
in 'waiting for incoming fax' mode, all incoming phone calls<br>
cannot go through. Your computer will try to translate the<br>
incoming call into a faxed message.<br><br>
In addition, if you use  the modem for internet access, you<br>
won't be able to go online  if you have your program set in<br>
'receive' mode. If you are frequently accepting faxes, it is highly<br>
recommended to get a second phone line.<br><br>
What I like about this program is that I can create a document in<br>
MS Word and transmit it without exiting. It is handy because it<br>
eliminates the need to retrieve the document. All you do is choose<br>
Mighty Fax as your printer and that will invoke the program. Apparently,<br>
this program can be launched from a variety of Windows applications.<br><br>
When you want to send a fax, a popup screen appears for you to<br>
enter in the destination fax number.<br><br>
When you click on the 'send fax now' button, another screen will<br>
appear and ask if you want to create a cover page. By selecting<br>
'yes', you will be shown a menu of cover pages to choose from.<br>
Fill in the cover page and then proceed with faxing the cover page<br>
and document.<br><br>
If the fax fails or the recipients's line is busy, you  will be notified<br>
of the status. It will also go into retry if the line is busy.<br><br>
Mighty Fax will keep a record of your all outgoing faxes and the<br>
status of the transmission.<br><br>
The program is downloadable on the internet from RKS Software.<br>
The program is available for a 30-day free trial and if you decide to<br>
keep it, you pay $19.95 US. The trial software is actually the full<br>
version so you don't have to do a second download after the 30<br>
days. All you do is purchase the registration key.<br><br>
Unlike some trial programs, there is no limit as to the number of<br>
faxes you can send.<br><br>
For the person who is sending single faxes or doesn't care about<br>
having a huge library of pre-made cover sheets, then this program<br>
is ideal. Other programs which are more expensive have all the<br>
bells and whistles.<br><br>
Mighty Fax is inexpensive, easy to use, and saves you the cost of<br>
buying a fax machine.<br><br>

HAVE SPEAKERS, WILL SOUND OFF<br>
says Tom Glander<br>
___________________________________<br><br>
</b>DOES your system have a sound card and speakers? Did it<br>
come with a microphone? If yes, let's have some fun!<br><br>
You can make your computer say anything when it starts up and<br>
shuts down, or when you click on some item... all you need to<br>
do is record your voice. First, let's do the recording, then<br>
we'll set up the sounds later.<br><br>
I'm sticking with the recording stuff that comes with Windows.<br>
If you have some other sound recorder, you can use it.<br><br>
1. Open the Sound Recorder. It's under Start, Programs,<br>
Accessories, Entertainment.<br><br>
2. With your microphone hooked up, click the red round dot<br>
on the far right side. This is the record button.<br><br>
3. Say a few words, then stop the recorder by clicking the<br>
square Stop button next to the Record button.<br><br>
4. Save the file (click File, Save As, and give it a name.)<br>
Save it in your Documents folder, under My Recordings. If<br>
there's no folder named My Recordings, you can create the<br>
folder, or just save the file in My Documents for now.<br><br>
You can record phrases, words, anything. Add music if you<br>
want. If you're into telephone answering machine messages,<br>
hook up your answering system to your computer. (Now that's<br>
a tricky one!)<br><br>
Remember, a 'document' is not just a word document. It can<br>
be a picture, a sound, a spreadsheet, whatever. In the purest<br>
terms, a document may be written words... but in computer<br>
parlance, it's more.<br><br>
The sound recorder is a lot of fun. My three-year-old nephew<br>
grabbed the microphone and said, 'See ya later, dude.' His<br>
dad has saved those words for his shutdown message.<br><br>
Trevor is now 10 years old. But the 'see ya later, dude'<br>
is still only three years old. And will be forever. Maybe you'll<br>
save your kids voices or grandkids voices forever. Just<br>
record them onto your computer... it's a ton of fun!<br><br>
Note: The sound recorder has a 60 second limit. That's way<br>
more than you'll need for simple voice work. And by the<br>
way, 60 seconds of sound during my test took up 1.2 megabytes<br>
of disk  space. You can record a LOT of sound and still have<br>
room to spare. So have fun with this! You can always delete the<br>
files later if you find you aren't using them.<br><br>
How to Install Your Own Sound Files<br><br>
Now that we hav reorded our own sounds what do we do with<br>
them? Lets attach them to events in the Sounds Properties<br>
window. Here's how...<br><br>
1. Open the Sounds Properties dialog box. You'll find it as<br>
an icon in the Control Panel, named 'Sounds'.<br><br>
2. Highlight the line item named 'Close program'  by clicking<br>
on it once. The 'Name:' field comes alive. You can select<br>
from pre-existing sounds there, but we're going to browse<br>
for our new sound.<br><br>
3. Click the 'Browse...' button, and navigate to your My<br>
Documents folder, and select your new sound. The speaker<br>
will appear in the Preview box if you had no sounds selected<br>
previously.<br><br>
4. Preview the sound by clicking the right arrow button in<br>
the Preview area. Like what you hear? Okay!<br><br>
5. Click the Apply button. Select another Event, attach<br>
a new sound, click Apply, until you've set up all the sounds<br>
you want.<br><br>
6. Click the OK button to put the dialog box away.<br><br>
The Details button will give you additional details on the<br>
sound file you select. In the Schemes field, you can choose<br>
from existing sound schemes, if they exist on your system.<br><br>
Going back to Trevor... his 'See ya later, dude'  sound was<br>
attached to the Exit Windows event. Every time his dad shuts<br>
down the computer, Trevor's voice is heard.<br><br>
'See ya later, dude.'<br><br>

<b>HINT FOR HOTMAIL-ERS<br>
Information supplied by Topica<br>
______________________________________<br><br>
</b>IT was recently reported in the What's New at Topica<br>
newsletter that some Hotmail users were having their<br>
Topica mail filtered as 'junk mail'.  <br><br>
Topica hosts this ezine, Newbies, Nerds & Nitwits, and<br>
I would hate to think it was going straight into someone's<br>
Trash Can! (The trouble is that if this happening the<br>
Hotmailer concerned is never going to read this message.)<br>
However, hoping for the best,  I have decided to include <br>
the following tip from Topica.<br><br>
'Some Hotmail subscribers wrote in to say they hadn't been<br>
receiving email from their Topica lists.  After some investigation, <br>
we think the problem may be the result of a new Hotmail feature <br>
that filters mailing list mail into a 'junk mail' folder.<br><br>
'If you're having trouble receiving mail from a Topica mailing list, <br>
try this:<br><br>
* Log into your Hotmail account<br>
* At the 'Options' page, select 'Mail Handling.' (The 'Options' tab<br>
can be found at the top of your account page, next to the<br>
 'Address Book' tab.)<br>
* In the appropriate fields, type in the name of the mailing list <br>
you want to receive in your Inbox.<br><br>
'Example: If you want to receive your subscription to What's New<br>
in your Inbox instead of your junk mail folder, you would need to <br>
enter the email address of the What's New mailing list, or <br>
ne-@topica.com.<br><br>
<br>
'Hotmail users can also contact Hotmail support for<br>
questions or  issues related to this feature.'<br><br>

SUCCESS WITH A 1930'S COMPUTER<br>
by Dominic Koklas<br>
_________________________________________<br><br>
</b>I'LL never forget the day that my brother, who runs up<br>
his own department in a major software company, came<br>
to my house with a box full of computer parts. He told me<br>
it was time that I got with the program and join the twentieth<br>
century.<br><br>
He built this computer right in front of my eyes. I'm using it<br>
now  to write this article. It consisted of spare parts he picked<br>
up from work. It's slow but it works for me. I have worked on-line<br>
using this '1930's' computer ( his words) for years.<br><br>
I did not have a clue on how to use this thing. So I made plenty<br>
of phone calls to my very patient brother. I was fast becoming a<br>
thorn in his side. I'm sure he asked himself more than once 'why<br>
in the world did I give him this computer'. But I quickly began to<br>
pick up on how to operate my fascinating new 'toy'.<br><br>
I had the basics down. It was now time to get connected to the world. <br>
When I opened my first dial-up account I was so excited I could hardly <br>
contain myself. I was bothering everyone I knew with, 'Are you on-line? <br>
You have to check out this site! Hey what's your email address?' I <br>
joined chat rooms and surfed around aimlessly.  Then, like a bolt of <br>
lightning from cyber space it hit me!<br><br>
I recieved a slice of spam in my email. The subject line jumped out at me <br>
like a revelation. It simply said,  'Work from Home with Your Computer, Earn <br>
Big Money!' Something like that anyway. It was some so-called biz-op. <br>
Some get rich quick trick. <br><br>
It opened up a whole new world for me. No more hard labor. No more nine<br>
to five ( it actually was more like nine to nine). This was my focus now. <br>
Money making opportunities. My head was spinning from all the seemingly <br>
perfect opportunities out there. <br><br>
I jumped all over the place. From one 'opp' to another. I joined every<br>
affiliate and MLM company I could find. I lost a lot of money. I got <br>
bruised, burned, and bit! But...I learned a lot and never gave up!<br><br>
I kept telling myself that if they could do it, so could I. <br>
I pressed foward. I got smarter. I looked for opportunities that<br>
were right for me. I learned to sift through all the hype and find<br>
the programs that I would be able to work.<br><br>
The important thing to note here is that I never gave up. I never quit.<br>
I fell flat on my face more times then I would like to remember. But I just <br>
got up, brushed myself off and kept going. I didn't care what anyone said. <br>
I would not give up. I would make it happen.<br><br>
Shakespeare wrote, 'That has not half the power to harm me, as I have<br>
connected with action. Successful men keep moving. They make<br>
mistakes, but they don't quit.'<br><br>
This is how you make it to the end of the road to success.<br>
Get hurt..Don't Quit!<br><br>
Hit a stumbling block..Keep Moving!<br><br>
So in the end, it's not the capital that you have to work with or the <br>
speed of your computer, it's the 'not quitting' that counts.<br><br>
I'm doing just fine with my '1930s' computer.....<br><br>
