Bloom1 and 2/Trope/Air  doormp-@hotmail.com

Having been enjoying BLOOM 1 for about a year now I got really nervous
when I learned Eno and Chilvers had designed 3 new pieces for Apple, so
this week I bought the new I-Phone/I-Pod Eno pieces.
First of all it turned out that the update for BLOOM was for free.
This updated version is really worthwile. The main feature of it to me
seems that you can now play BLOOM in 3 different sound types. ( 1-the
sounds of the first version 2- Bowl like sounds 3- a , probably a
mixture of 1 and 2 mode.
I found the results really overwhelming on first hearing and quite
different from the first version.( i would characterize the first
version sounds as piano-like; some of the sounds of the second one are
more electronic) It`s also nice that you`re still able to play the fisrt
version seperately.
TROPE was as beautiful as I had hoped it would be. It allows you to have
control over more of the settings than you could have with BLOOM 1, but
playing the pieces `interactive` doesnt seem to be my piece of cake ; I
find it more interesting to play the pieces in the `listen`mode and let
the pieces evolve by themselves without interfering ( tapping the screen
with BLOOM and striking it with TROPE).(The visuals are also quite
striking and reminded me esspecially of Hans Hartung paintings).
The third new piece is called AIR and it says that it`s by Peter
Chilvers alone, although based on Eno`s concepts(remarkebly the price of
purchasing it is about half of the combined pieces`)
It`s interesting at least in that it has a female voice as one of the
musical parameters.(the other one being a piano)The mood of the piece is
quite simmilar to the `Music For Airports`.vocal parts.
So, with now 4 I-Phone/Pod compositions in all I don`t think I will have
to worry about what music I have to play during my breakfasts.
