Hello,

I was hoping someone could help us determine if the following media
is appropriate for archival use:

Recently we have made the transition from DVDs to portable Hard
drives. We are now archiving material to 300GB drives, making
duplicate sets of each drive. IT has provided us with one Hard drive
brand. I have heard it is best to archive to multiple forms of media
AND specifically to vary the manufacture between 1st and 2nd set drives.

We are using the following:

WD Caviar SE SATA Hard Drives, 300 GB, 300 MB/s, 8 MB Cache, 7200 RPM

Barracuda 7200.9, Model Number:ST3300622A, Capacity:300 GB, Speed:
7200 rpm, Seek time:N/A ms avg, Interface:Ultra ATA/100

wiebetech TTXE, SATA speeds up to 3.0Gbps, SATA 1 or 2, Dual FW 800
(1394b), USB 2.0 - 480 Mbps (mini B)

We would prefer to not use Tape.   Another option is to archive to a
remote stationary server.

I am hoping someone can confirm that this is our best alternative.
Suggestions are welcome!

Best,
Danielle Swift
