A few thoughts - I don't know anything about the particular brand of
drive you are using, so I can't say anything about that specifically,
but...
1) The best brand of drive can have a defect, so a specific brand is not
necessarily insurance against failure;
2) You should have a plan to periodically review all drives to verify
their integrity; time can impact all kinds of media
3) You probably need a migration plan for the future; what happens if
the HDs become obsolete, what if better technology becomes available,
etc.
4) What are the storage parameters for all this hardware? Wonderful
drives stored in poor conditions can end up as expensive paperweights.
Are the environmental conditions appropriate? What is the power backup
like for these drives?
Dunno if it helps, but those are my ideas.

Hello,
I was hoping someone could help us determine if the following media
is appropriate for archival use:
Recently we have made the transition from DVDs to portable Hard
drives. We are now archiving material to 300GB drives, making
duplicate sets of each drive. IT has provided us with one Hard drive
brand. I have heard it is best to archive to multiple forms of media
AND specifically to vary the manufacture between 1st and 2nd set drives.
