Subject: IMPORTANT NEWS!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that we are at the
beginnings of some major changes for the NYART Website.
We have moved our site to a new host for a number of reasons. First and
foremost, the new host will save the organization around $300 a year.
More importantly, the new host offers tremendously improved
functionality in a number of areas, the first of which I'd like to share
with you, subscribers to our Topica bulletin board.
We are now capable of hosting our own bulletin board within the
nycarchivists.org domain. I have in fact already set up two bulletin
boards at our new host, and you can reach them at
http://forums.nycarchivists.org . This web address may get truncated -
if you can't see the full address, you can now get to the page from the
main page of the NYART site by clicking on the Bulletin Board link at
the bottom right.
I am tremendously excited about the opportunities the new host, Total
Choice Hosting, will provide. And may I say they have been tremendously
friendly and helpful even in these first five days of our hosting with
them. I anticipate they will prove a wonderful resource if we run into
any problems. Bear in mind that I myself am learning the tool for the
bulletin board (not to mention the rest of the website), and there may
be a period of trial and error. I appreciate your patience with the
process as we make the switch. We hope to add other features and
functions as time goes by, and we welcome your suggestions as always.
I'd like to invite you all to make the move over to the new forums. You
will need to register if you want to post, and we will all have to learn
some of the ins & outs of setting up our forum experience. For the
moment there are two bulletin boards available - a general board and a
jobs board. I would be happy to add others, so if you have an idea for
a new subject area let me know and perhaps we can add it.
Please don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything I can do to
help make the transition smoother for you. I think you're going to like
the new space, and I look forward to seeing you there!
Dan
PS This Topica board will continue for a while, at least until it's
clear that we've settled in at the new site.
