* We sent four players to the United States Amateur Team East in
Parsippany, NJ, to duke it out in a series of violent and bloody
encounters over the checkered board. While there was much agony, pain,
sorrow, revenge, and a desire to either survive or blow the competition
away and hitting them again...and again...and again...while they're
down, the event ended with laughter and happiness and respect...yes,
respect...for all. Actually, this didn't happen in the end, but that's
another story.

It was great to see familiar faces and old chess friends. Hikaru. What
a sight to see, until he CRUSHES you. No pun intended.

The team finished with 2.5 match points. Here are the individual
results.

Board 1: Douglas Burgwin (1780), 2.0 pts/5 rounds
Board 2: Rexford Cristal (1630), 3.5 pts/5 rounds
Board 3: Alan Walk (1622), 2.0 pts/3 rounds
Board 4: Michael Shick (Unr.), 2.0 pts/5 rounds
Team Points: 2.5 pts/5 rounds

* The next scheduled tournament will be the 2004 Foxwoods Open to take
place from April 9 to April 11 in Mashantucket/Ledyard, CT. Please
contact us if you're interested. For more information, visit:

http://www.chesstour.com/

* We will also look into competing with other schools as well this
semester. We might challenge Princeton University, Columbia University,
and/or Baruch College among others. Please let us know if you would be
interested. We want an idea of how feasible this idea is.

* If you are interested in a lecture to be held by a master, please let
us know. These things can happen if you're interested!

* The fifth general meeting will be held from 5:30pm-7:30pm this
Thursday night (2/24) on the 7th Floor Lounge of Kimmel Center. Food
and drink will be served.

* We would also like to introduce our new officer...the lovely Brandi.
She will be doing some important work for us this semester including the
hot ads which took about a year to create! Ashley (he's a man, by the
way; actually, not really) will be the skillful webmaster for our club.
He's currently the Webmaster and a hospital coordinator and leader
(Hospital for Joint Diseases) in Project Sunshine, which supposedly
saves the lives of children. Contact him if you're interested in that
organization.
