The NYU vs. Baruch College chess match will probably NOT be held on
Saturday, April 23. So far, we're looking at the following dates with
games starting at 4pm or 5pm.
Friday, April 22 (5pm+)
Sunday, April 24 (4pm-5pm+)
Friday, April 29 (5pm+)
Saturday, April 30 (4pm-5pm+)
Sunday, May 1 (4pm-5pm+)
Saturday, April 23?
The time control will probably be set at G/90. G/60 and longer time
controls are being considered.
Please e-mail us with your preferences. The choice of time, date, and
time control will be based on team strength and size. The final team
size will be based on the team that Baruch sends although they claim
that they can send a lot of players. Baruch College is currently
determining which times will work for them. The match will probably
take place in Kimmel or the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences,
but we have yet to determine the on-campus playing site.
The current roster has changed and is still open.

Preview: (updated)
Valdman (1184) will be returning to do what he always does well - crush
the competition. Crouch (yes, Brad Crouch!) will bring his extremely
underrated skills back to the board for a final showdown. This match
will also bring together some of the original members of the chess club
from 2001 (Cristal, Crouch, and Valdman) for one last chance at chess
glory before they're put out to pasture, so really, it can't get any
better than this. We'll be seeing the chess club's future in Doug
Burgwin (1768), and get a chance to observe other new players in
Rastogi, Cartier, Lichtenberg, and Tung. Magarshak (1774) and Walk
(1624) are expected to be productive and give solid performances while
Sneed, with a surprise comeback, is returning to the club to help give
support for the rest of the team.
Bobby Moy (1437) and his team are expected to be strong with Layevskiy,
who crushed NYU's own unpredictable and bold Guzman in a previous match
(this is no easy task), and Fridkin, with a previous win over the
notable Keith Chan. Popov (1060), who also has had success against NYU,
will also give Moy some solid support. The team listed so far was the
team sent to the Pan-Am games in Wichita, Kansas, and hope for another
NYU massacre.
