Hello
all,
I am sure many
of you have heard, but if you have not, Bear
& PSF are co-producing an educational touring version
of Romeo and Juliet
that Bear (David Fisher) will be organizing and running and
I will be
directing. The touring version will be approximately 60
minutes and feature 5
actors. It will tour as one of Bear’s mainstays
beginning in February or March
of next year. We are casting the roles now and will
workshop most of the play
in November and December, dependant on the casts
availability. Rehearsals will
begin in earnest in early 2010.
We are holding
auditions for the play this Sunday November
1, 2009 at 19,30 (7:30pm) at Redutta. This will be operated
like a typical Bear
production – minimal set, costumes and props with an
emphasis on language
and story. Actors are paid for all performances (one rate
for within Prague, a
slightly higher rate outside of Prague) but all salaries
will need to be
negotiated directly with David Fisher. At minimum two
actors will be cast for
each role to ensure that there is always an actor available
for the
performances. Although under special circumstance more than
2 actors may be
considered. My understanding is that it is not uncommon to
have two
performances most performance days.
Actors who are
invited to participate must have a very
flexible daytime schedule, as performances usually require
very early mornings
(especially when traveling).
It is our hope
that this production will serve as a
benchmark for future collaborations and that it also gives
local actors further
opportunities to develop their craft and Shakespearean
acting skills. On a side
note, Romeo and Juliet is a play under consideration for
the PSF 2010 season,
playing on Vysehrad’s outdoor stage May 12-27, 2010
(official announcement
and exact titles to come soon).
We are
interested in seeing anyone who believes they have NO
conflicts with the Bear rehearsal and performance
schedules. If you already
know you have conflicts (a steady 8-18 day-job), please
save us and yourself
the time and do not come to the casting.
The character
breakdown is attached with the sides. There is
no need to make an appointment – please show up at
19,30 and be prepared
to stay for at least an hour or so. However, if you do plan
on coming to the
casting please reply to this email and let me know so we
can be on the lookout
for you.
If you know of
someone who might be a good fit for this
project, please pass the information along to
them.
Thanks so much
– I look forward to working with all of
you again (or for the first time).
All my very
best, Guy
