RE: out, out damned spot  Terence O'Leary

That's a terrific observation. If i am not mistaken, it appears as though
the European and Asian manufacturers seem to be making "smaller, more energy
and water efficient" models of washers. The "American" models (if there
still are "Made in America" washers?) seem to be the "grand" size and
emphasize the "better cleaning" capabilities of these "in-the-home
machines."
As far as the "huge" washing machines observation, it seems as though the
same may be said of refrigerators and ovens as well. Just visit the GE
Household Appliances website and read the terminology used to advocate the
purchases of these "new, roomier" models. Roomier? Who can afford "more
room" for anything, and, why does one "need a roomier" appliance of any kind
at this time?
I also would be most interested in observing/comparing the "home appliances"
market in the burgeoning "New China."

have you noticed how huge the washing machines are growing even as
dwellings are growing smaller? Could this have anything to do with
Americans wanting to cleanse themselves?
