Simply Tim Classic: ALL THAT GLITTERS

As far as days go, yesterday was a pretty good one, weather-wise. It was
so pleasant I decided to do some much needed yard work -- mostly picking
up a year’s worth of fallen branches and other things that fall from
trees. Within an hour I was sweating up a storm. The top of my head was
feeling a bit sunburned, so I grabbed a bottle of suntan oil out of the
hall closet and smeared some liberally where the hair doesn’t grow.
Later, I visited the post office to pick up my mail. I couldn’t help but
notice that a few of the locals were staring at me more than usual.

Next, I made a quick pit-stop at a Texaco station for some gas. The guy
behind the counted grinned at me. Then I drove by my favorite small-time
grocery store, where I perused the meat cooler for
close-to-expiration-date T-bones, New York strips, or maybe a fillet
mignon if I was lucky. I wasn’t. The cash register folks became quiet
when I checked out my groceries. They were politely smirk-ish.

I began to wonder.

When I returned home I made a bee-line for the bathroom. On the way I
glanced in the mirror. My head looked like one of those 70’s disco-balls
covered with tiny mirrors. Only they weren’t mirrors -- they were
thousands of flecks of GLITTERY THINGS!

The suntan lotion I had used earlier was sitting on the bathroom
counter. Suspended within the thick aloe Vera goop were zillions and
ZILLIONS of multi-colored, glimmering pieces of what looked like
shredded Christmas tinsel. I read the label: “AUSTRALIAN GOLD SOLAR
DUST, DARK-TANNING GEL, EXOTIC BLEND”. Obviously, something trendy left
behind from one of my teenaged sun bunny nieces’ visits. I jumped in the
shower, shielding my eyes from the explosion of colored speckles being
sucked down the drain.

How could all those nice folks I had visited through the course of my
day kept from bursting out laughing? I sure would have. Then again,
maybe they were all still rolling on the floor.

Off The Shelf

Have you tried a new product lately? Want to share your opinion with
others? This is your chance to review new grocery items. Name the
product. Say what it is. We ask that you be specific about the qualities
you like or dislike without getting “long-winded.” We also ask you to
mention your city and state (or country) because all new products aren’t
available everywhere and some are just in test markets. Please, no
direct marketing items.

Put OTS or Off The Shelf in the subject line and send to
ri-@recipedujour.com

Well, there were no Off The Shelf submissions this past week, so I think
I'll take this space and ask you for monetary support so that we can
continue publishing our ezines.

Some of you contribute during the year (and we thank you!), but most of
the donations we receive are in response to our yearly fund raiser. If
you can not afford to send anything, that's fine; we've been {are} there
too. We will not unsubscribe you. If you are one of those who think
everything on the Internet should be free and you just will not send us
any money, that's fine. We will not unsubscribe you either. But if you
can find it in your heart and wallet to send us $5 or $10 or $20 (or
even more as some of you have so graciously done in the past) we would
be very grateful.

Recipe du Jour and RDJ Petite, as well as Dessert du Jour, are made
possible only by donations from subscribers like you. If you enjoy
receiving RDJ, please support us by sending a check for any amount
payable to "Recipe du Jour" to: PO Box 195, Henrico NC, 27842. OR use

Do You Remember?

THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND
Andrew Gold

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down a road and back again
Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say

Thank you for being a friend

If it's a car you lack
I'd surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need any time of the day or night

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear even though it's hard to hear
I will stand real close and say

Thank you for being a friend

And when we die
And float away
Into the night
The milky way
You'll hear me call
As we ascend
I'll say your name
Then once again

Thank you for being a friend
