Howdy Adventureland Friends:

I have another dedication this week. This is in memory of Jerry Reed. The death of this 'Smokey & The Bandit' alumni has gone largely unnoticed. As Snowman, he inspired kids to become truck drivers.

My uncle Danny is related to Elvis. Okay, you got me -- an Elvis -- not the Elvis. Hey, it sounded good huh? He was doing a fundraiser for a local family. Would like to book Elvis for your event?

http://www.rodcarpenter.com

In addition to Elvis, I ran into an old friend/babysitter - Mike - who I had lost contact with. You need a web site for your produce stand. Now, what am going to link to here.

Last night I attended a screening of 'The Spiderwick Chronicals' at our publiclibrary. There auditorium has both stadium seating and conference tables. A design must for your home theater. The flick was great too.

Our Celebrity Spotlight shines on new dad to be Charlie Sheen. This Brat Packer and Hollywood playboy from Ohio has been there and back. After 3 girls, I hope he has finally earned a boy.

The Snack Bar has what could be a main course. How about serving up some Beef Tamale Nachos in your table-equipped home theater? Or show a movie on the lawn and serve this on the picnic table.

I ran into a cool bookmark this week. World Wide Web TV is a must have for anyone with broadband and without cable TV. In fair disclosure, this is an affiliate link that I will benefit from.

Blog Bytes has started to sputter again. I have one post to offer about Alfred Hitchcock. One trademark of his was an appearance by himself. See a list of these appearances here.

'BATMAN' PASSES THE $500 MILLION MARK

Batman's alter-ego Bruce Wayne has added half a billion dollars to his riches. "The Dark Knight" on Sunday became the second movie in Hollywood history to top $500 million at the domestic box office, raising its total to $502.4 million, according to estimates from Warner Bros.

The film hit that mark in about 6 weeks, half the time it took
"Titanic," which reached $500 million in about 3 months. "Titanic," the biggest modern blockbuster, remains #1 on domestic charts with $600.8 million.

Despite its brisk pace, "Dark Knight" is not expected to approach the total for "Titanic," which put up smaller numbers week after week but lingered at the top of the box office for months.

Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros., said he expects "The Dark Knight" to finish at about $530 million, though it could reach $550 million if business persists as strongly as it has.

"I keep raising the number because it just keeps holding better than expected," Fellman said.

"Dark Knight" will climb to about $505 million by Labor Day, conclusion of Hollywood's summer season. That amounts to about one-eighth of Hollywood's summer revenue of $4.2 billion, which edges the previous summer record of $4.18 billion set last year, according to Media By Numbers.

Factoring in today's higher admission prices, "Dark Knight" would need to take in about $900 million to match the tickets sold by "Titanic."

Labor Day weekend was generally sleepy at theaters, with a rush of new movies failing to find much favor with audiences. Through Sunday, Paramount's "Tropic Thunder" remained #1 for the third straight weekend with $11.5 million.

The 20th Century Fox "Babylon A.D." with Vin Diesel debuted in second place with $9.7 million, while Overture Films' espionage drama "Traitor," starring Don Cheadle, opened at #5 with $7.9 million.

Premiering at #7 was Lionsgate's "Disaster Movie" with $6.2 million. MGM's campus comedy "College" opened well outside the top 10 with $2.1 million.

The top 12 movies took in $75.2 million, down 23% from the same weekend last year, when "Halloween" opened with $26.4 million.

"This is kind of an inauspicious end to a really incredible summer," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. "We limped past the finish line."

FIND HITCHCOCK'S SIGNATURE CAMEOS

Maggie Van Ostrand of Film School Rejects recently posted a great article to commemorate what would have been filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock's 109th birthday. Her article on the movie blog chronicles all 37 of Hitch's cameos in his own movies. I always knew that this was one of the Master of Suspense's trademarks. He would feature himself in a brief walk-on role in each movie, often times carrying a musical instrument. I had no idea he did it in 37 of his 52 major movies. Here, from FSR and similar listings on the Hitchcock.tv site and the Wikipedia entry, are all of his brief appearances. How many do you remember? Here is a video featuring many of the cameos. It even highlights them for you so won't miss them in your next viewing of the Hitchcock movie. Enjoy!
