The basic principle is, as Mark sez, to remove the PO oils (or
"resins") before they get absorbed into your skin. PO oil is very
thick, so it gets absorbed slowly over a number of hours. If you
catch it in time you may avoid a rash. I'm still rash-free from
Sunday after using Tecnu.
BTW, anything that you might use to wash your hands after cleaning
your bike chain could also do the trick. Heck, I've used straight
dishwashing detergent for that. It's best by far to rub yourself with
the cleanser before you get your skin wet, as Tecnu recommends. In a
pinch you could just rub your dry exposed skin with detergent or hand
cleaner, then take a cool shower. Tecnu recommends taking a cool
shower afterwards because hot water opens up your pores allowing PO
oil in. Cool water keeps the oil on the surface.
