Huh. I wrote about something like this on my blog a few months ago.
From the article:
Videotape a typical intersection and do the math. A scan of 40
minutes of footage shot during morning rush hour at the
four-way stop of Duboce and Steiner Streets showed the
following:
Seven cyclists came to a complete stop.
Fifteen cyclists paused.
Ninety-one cyclists blew right through the intersection.
From Rob Cockerham's informal videotape survey of a stop sign near his
house (http://www.cockeyed.com/citizen/stop/stop4.shtml):
Out of 276 cars though the intersection that hour, only 8
vehicles stopped fully. 97% of the cars had not stopped.
Another 17 cars nearly stopped (stop-ish).
Results:
Bikes Cars
Blow through 80.5% 91%
"Sorta" stop 13.3% 6%
Fully stop 6.2% 3%
Clearly, it's scofflaw /cyclists/ that are the problem at stop signs...
