bolts - i have been using Upats - i can get them
cheaper and they have a double collar which i like -
any comments on hilti vs upat? cheers,

| | The Upat with the double collar actually does not work
at all in harder rock types (most of what we bolt in).
In all the tests the Upat bolts pulled out in tact at
fairly low forces, all the Hilti's pulled out with the
expansion mechanism staying behind.
With steep or overhanging rock Upat's are at risk,
they may be strong enough on slab or vertical rock

ooooops !!!!!!
a little knowledge is a dangerous thing - a practising engineer - i kid
you not - strongly recommended the double over the single collar !!!!
i have done most of my bolting at the white umfolozi which probably has
the hardest rock in the country - typically ony five 10mm x 70mm hole
per drill bit, and most (actually ALL) of it is on-balance to vertical.
PLEASE don't tell me that my Upat bolts are a danger to climbers
!!!!!!!!!!!!! gavin.
