Thanks to You, Bicycling wins big in SAFETEA-LU!
$612 million for Safe Routes to School! $370 million for Recreational
Trails! $893 million for Transportation Enhancements. This is just the
beginning of the major prizes the America Bikes coalition has won in the
Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act-Legacy
for Users (SAFETEA-LU), signed into law by the President on August 10th.
See www.americabikes.org for the unfolding analysis of exactly what
bicyclists and pedestrians won and lost in this voluminous law.
America Bikes did well because of you. Thank-you for your generous
financial contributions and for taking the time to call, write and email
Congress. Your action multiplied by support throughout the country
ensured that bicyclists were heard on Capitol Hill. We realize this was a
long drawn-out fight, but we didn<RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK>t lose focus. The results are
definitely worth the effort and could not have been achieved without your
support <EN DASH> thank-you!
All of our efforts are helping build a consensus in Washington DC that
bicycling is an important part of the mainstream transportation agenda.
It is vital for our future that we maintain this momentum. So please be
sure to thank your Representatives and Senators for their support during
the passage of SAFETEA-LU. We have a great deal still to achieve, but let
them know we are grateful for the progress made by SAFETEA-LU and we look
forward to working with them in the future.
And remember, when America Bikes, America Benefits!
