"History Of The Sixth Machine Gun Battalion" shows Arthur H. Debolt,
4608343, joining the 15th Co on 10-16-18. This was just before the
Meuse-Argonne battle.
I would suggest going to your local Veterans Services Office in your area
and see if they will help you get his file from St. Louis. If you can get
this, you can follow him from signing on to discharge. If you send for it,
they will tell you it was in the 1973 fire when the army records were
burned. The Marine files were in a different place my local office got my
father's file for me.
His discharge may be on file at the court house of his residence. That will
also have helpful information. His home start may have printed a roster of
the soldiers, sailors and Marines in the World War. Check at a library for
a copy and/or try interlibrary loan.
"Devil Dogs; Fighting Marines Of World War One" by George B. Clark would be
another good book (maybe the best) for you to get hold of to read about what
your grandfather went through.
The 15th Company, 6th Machine Gun Battalion, 4 Brigade was part of the
Second Division AEF. Any books covering any of these will give you some
information.
Good luck.

I am looking for any information about Company C 1st Separate Machine
Gun Battalion. I found a letter from my grandfather, Arthur H.DeBolt who
was a Marine in Company C. He says in the letter he was one of eighteen
survivors out of 250. He said he went over the top 3 times and was
wounded 3 times, but not so bad that he could take care of himself.
Any info would be appreciated.
