Furnace Creek 508 Oct. 6, 2007

So what is the Furnace Creek 508 anyway? It is a 508 mile non stop, crew supported, bicycle race through Death Valley and other remote areas. Along with the 508 miles there are also 35,000 feet of elevation gain. You experience the high heat of the desert and the cold of the mountain passes...truly an epic adventure.

As you may recall I did this event last year. This year I am raising the ante by doing it Fixed Gear. Yes ONE GEAR, ONE BIKE, NO COASTING and NO UNCLIPPING FROM THE PEDALS. I will pedal every inch of the 508 mile 35,000 feet of gain and don't forget not coasting or unclipping on the descents.

Now because I am riding a fixed gear don't be alarmed when many other riders are checking in to time stations and I am "AWOL". It's just going to take me a little longer to complete the event.
