Hello Everyone:
I thought I would consolidate my email posts because I am racing every weekend.
2/23/08-- San Diego 400km (256 miles) Finished 1st (20 hours)
3/1/08-- Baker to Death Valley Road Race (80 miles) 30th (60+ field over 20 DNF's)
3/2/08-- Dash for Cash Criterium 9th (won a prime)
3/4/08 -- El Dorado Criterium Masters 40+ 8th
3/9/08-- Tour de Murrieta Circuit Race 10th
3/11/08-- El Dorado Criterium Masters 40+ Pack Finish
3/16/08-- LA Circuit Race Cat IV 12th (100 rider field)
My first impression about this type of racing Criterium, Circuit and Road Races is that they are over and done with before I realize it. At the Cat V and Cat IV level the Crits are only 30-45 mins...really intense really fast and really dangerous. There have been crashes at every race I have been to.
I also find them too easy and all about position. Yes that too easy comment will offend some people but really all that prep and all that fuss for 45 mins of racing. No nutrition strategy, no pacing strategy, no need for which lights to bring, which safety gear to bring, no need for conserving for the 20 mile climb, no mental games to play to keep you pedalling through all the pain. On the other hand it is raw and primative and that also has it's appeal.
I decided that my goal for 2008 is to upgrade from a Cat V to Cat III. Their now that I made it public I have to stick to it. I have already upgraded to Cat IV so now I am targeting Cat III.
