Another nice thing about riseup is that the group takes donations of
time, so if someone on this list wanted to code the functionality you
mention into the riseup inteface, it would be one of those win all
around situations.

to them is useful to me. In fact, without that, I wouldn't bother to
subscribe. One nice thing I like about topica's method of viewing the
archives is that if I respond to a message, it pops up a separate
window
with the original message already populated into the window, complete
with ">" symbols. My understanding of the archives on riseup, at least
based on the one list that I regularly participate in, is that they
also
provide the convenient ability of posting or responding while browsing
the archives, although in my view it is not as nice as topica's method,
since there you have to populate the compose window yourself with the
message you respond to, and it lacks the feature that I like in topica
of the little popup window for composition.
Some listserv archives seem to provide no direct interface for posting
messages or replies, and so in those cases, you if you browse the
archives and want to respond to a specific message, you have to go to
your email client and compose the message separately. That is the
least
convenient method for people who only read a listserv via the archives.
