Hi there -
Thanks so much for the many helpful comments and suggestions I received
about this list. The resounding word was that email is preferable to a
web-only forum setup.
We were able to setup a list with the very cool folks at www.riseup.net
- a great collection of other list-servs, by the way, on the progressive
politics front.
Here's the plan:
1. I will take the existing subscriber list from Topica and subscribe
all of you to the new riseup list. Unfortunately, digest vs. individual
message settings can't be saved; you'll need to adjust that on the new
system yourself.
2. You should each receive a message from the riseup server welcoming
you to the sfbike list and giving you a randomly assigned password. At
the bottom of the message is a link for changing your preferences and
password, and info on unsubscribing from the list. (If you don't receive
the welcome email, you can contact me at chr-@sfbike.org for help.
Please be sure to look through your spam folders for the welcome message
before emailing me.)
3. I will then delete the Topica list. I'm pretty sure this is an
immediate action, and the address sfb-@topica.com will just bounce, or
give some kind of 'the list is dead' message. There doesn't seem to be
any 'forwarding info' allowed.
4. All new messages should from then on be sent to
sfb-@lists.riseup.net - please update your address books! I'll be
updating the subscribe form at www.sfbike.org/lists to reflect the
change, as well, though anyone can subscribe at lists.riseup.net

Thanks again for your helpful feedback. We're looking forward to an
ad-free list as much as you are!
Chris
