Good to Great - social sectors  Jeff Miller
 Jan 11, 2006 06:51 PST

Hello from a rainy Indiana... and Happy New Year!!!

Long time readers of this list may recall seeing Jim Collin's work
mentioned. About 5 years ago he did some stellar research on the
difference between "good" companies and "great" companies. Many of the
lessons from that work have direct application to the other sectors of
our society (non-profit, NGO, education, governmental agencies, etc.)

Collins has now done some work to more directly relate the Good to Great
research to the non-corporate world. What follows is an e-mail I
received telling how to access this info. For anyone concerned about
organizational effectiveness I highly recommend this work. Collins has
a bunch of resources that you can access via his website. Oh, and if
you'd like a nice shortened version of "Good to Great" he published an
article for Fast Company magazine that can be found at:
http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/51/goodtogreat.html

Have a terrific January.   /jeff

Friends of Good to Great,

As a student of our work who has corresponded with us in the past, I
thought you might like to know that we have recently released a
monograph entitled Good to Great and the Social Sectors. The monograph
is designed to answer common questions asked by leaders seeking to apply
the good-to-great framework to non-business organizations.

The social sectors monograph is now available at most major on-line
booksellers. You can read excerpts and listen to selected audio clips
at our e-teaching site, www.jimcollins.com.

All best wishes,

Jim
