I run my car on straight used vegetable oil; it's free. With your "bent"
for tinkering, maybe you can figure out how to use it as cooking fuel, too!

Caroline;

If you are concerned the place you deal with isn't honest, perhaps investing
in one of those meters you put on the top would be worth the expense, it
would seem handy to know if you are close to running out anyway. A couple
of those small tanks would be the most mobile solution and should last a
single person like Gig quite a while. But you can get bigger sizes that are
also mobile if the small tanks aren't big enough for you.
-----------------
I found a good propane place to go to, it is the same place I bought my 500
gallon Butane tank that I used for solar heating, during the oil embargo
days of the 70's... I will visit them this week and see if my old, 20 pound
propane tank can be refilled... it is an old tank... I might have to replace
it... Getting a meter on top of the tank to measure volume of gas inside the
tank, seem like a good idea...

I do want to run a test just to see how much the propane costs, and how long
a 20 lb tank of propane will last me.... since I will only scramble one, 4
minute egg each morning, maybe I could get a year out of a 20 pound tank of
propane.... I am still cooking one egg a day with my homemade alcohol
burner now, and one quart of denatured alcohol, using 1/8th of an ounce of
alcohol each morning will last me 5 months and 5 to 15 days... at $ 7.00 a
quart...

So 11 months of alcohol scrambled eggs will cost me about $14 dollars of
alcohol. I was recently told, that Methyl (wood alcohol) is even cheaper...
it is used to juice up race car fuel tanks... some people have told me that
I can bring my own gallon container to a speed shop, and get a gallon of
Methyl Alcohol for about $4.00... if Methyl Alcohol is, in fact, that
cheap... then I might switch to Methyl instead of the more expensive
Denatured, Ethyl alcohol.

I finished cleaning the battery terminals this morning and hooked the panels
back up, and it made a big difference.... Oh, today is November 1st, so I
put the monthly bleach into my water tank...

And, I had an hour long phone conversation my cousin, today, who has a few
PV panels and has experimented with propane, and he gave me a few new
ideas.... He only lives a few blocks from my house.... I may pay him a
visit, soon...
