Caroline;
I have been pondering if one could make a toaster that ran on propane or some other clean burning gas. I am thinking of how one makes a alcohol burning stove by making pin holes in a can. Perhaps there is a way to make an apparatus that would toast bread on both sides at the same time?
I made my own alcohol stove top, and it was simple... I also made one with pinholes, but this was hard to light, and my open top stove worked good.... I have posted the construction images at :

I have used this stove for three years now, and it works good for scrambling my morning egg with herbs and bacon bits... I haven't tried it yet, but it may be possible to toast a piece of bread on a hot skillet... I used to make cheese toast that way... I will try it and see if it works...
