(Infectious!)
I am determined to stay healthy and so far, so good. In spite of
reports of many, many friends and relatives who have succumbed to the
various nasty bugs, my efforts and potions, vitamins and hydration
efforts have paid off (so far) and I am feeling good.
I know that could change. I know that a stray germ could hop on board
at any moment, but I continue to quaff down the homeopathic (and in the
latest foray to Walgreen’s) Probiotic fizzies every 3 hours, flush my
sinuses with saline and will add in gargling twice a day with warm salt
water.
That is the current wisdom I’ve gleaned from the internet, my nurse
friends and common sense. I can’t afford to get sick right now—I’ve got
a lot of projects going. I’ve got school three nights a week. I’m in a
new relationship that keeps me running (and I’m developing a love for
running!). But if I DO start having the symptoms, I know it will be the
socially responsible thing to isolate and not spread the germies to
anyone else. I do enjoy good health, including my immune system, but
others I come into contact with may not be as blessed. I don’t want to
be the one who causes serious problems for those at greater risk.
Physical infections are nasty. This year, they seem especially
nasty—SWINE-LIKE, piggy and insidiously dangerous, even life
threatening. The news is full of dire warnings, complications. People
are scared—an unannounced cough can be perceived as the ultimate gaff.
Cover your mouth! Go home! I don’t WANT your cooties, okay?
I’m glad the media has brought this to our attention. It clues us in to
how to protect ourselves and our loved ones. But the media hasn’t been
as forthcoming about the other insidious threats that could lay us low
in other ways—and these threats aren’t linked to any particular
season—they are out there all the time, and we NEVER develop immunities
to them.
” Don't hang out with angry people; don't keep company with hotheads.
Bad temper is contagious— don't get infected.” Proverbs 22:24 (MSG)
I know I don’t like to be in the company of those who are angry or
discouraged or toxic in other ways. I find myself avoiding such people,
because I know from past experience that too much contact with that
particular poison can infect my spirit—and because I am a public person,
I can only spread it even further. Don’t want to go there—ever!
“When a leader listens to malicious gossip, all the workers get infected
with evil.” Proverbs 29:12 (MSG)
When you are a leader, in ANY capacity, you must be especially diligent
about what kind of messages you are listening to—and then sending out to
those who would rely on your judgment, your appraisal of the situation.
You affect (or INFECT) those in your sphere of influence—whether it is
co-workers, family members, friends—even casual acquaintances can be
infected—for good or for evil.
Having been on both sides of that infection, I have to say again—DO NOT
GO THERE! Run for your life—and the lives of everyone you care
about—nothing good can come of the evil infections that are spread by
the tongue—whether words or SPIT—the poison kills.
I am asking Him to cleanse me of the germies today. And tomorrow. And
every other time when I’m not paying attention—I ask Him to make me
aware of the infectious and invisible factions that are out there, just
waiting to latch on and destroy.
Take care of yourself. Gargle. Get plenty of fluids and plenty of
sleep. Wash your hands. Cover your mouth—when you have to cough—and
when dark thoughts would spill out. It is important. You are precious
in His sight. Let Him be in control—so you don’t get infected.
To your HEALTH!
Fondly,
Stephanie
