This is a list of and for serious photographers, professional and amateur alike, who use cameras to make visual art and who understand that working as an artist is simply a kind of task. This is a forum for the discussion of pictures and picture making, as well as tools and techniques, but only when these latter bear upon the former. List members are encouraged to present both finished work and work in progress regularly. We find debates over means -- digital v. film, color v. black and white, Macintosh v. Windows, large v. small format, professional v. consumer v. toy cameras -- irrelevant and avoid them except when they bear on a specific picture or body of pictures, in other words, on the ends. Hence this list is not limited to pictures made by one means or another, or that fall into any conventional (and often misleading) category, e.g. street photography, documentary photography, and so on. All approaches are welcome here, as are all kinds of subject matter.
There will be no contests of any kind.
Discussion of contemporary and historical photography in specific, and art in general, are welcome.

List Conduct: Experience with many lists of various kinds has shown that certain kinds of on-list conduct undermine the potential effectiveness of an online community. This is a moderated list and members are asked to always be honest, but constructive, in their posts. Personal attacks, inconsiderate behavior, rudeness, etc. are not tolerated on list and any list members who cannot respect those guidelines will be unsubscribed.
When you first post, please give us an introduction to yourself and your work, including a link to pictures. Tell us where you're from, how long you've been photographing, what kind of pictures you make, artists whose work interests you, etc. Give us an idea of who you are and what you make. |
