Here's yet another one:
13. Higher bumper doesn't line up with car bumpers, causing more damage
to the car in a collision.
(Last year I rear-ended an SUV at less than 5 MPH when it had to stop
suddenly.
I was driving a mini-van with a low bumper, same height
as most cars. The rear bumper of the SUV went completely over my
front bumper, causing damage to my hood, radiator, air conditioner,
both headlight units @$250 each, etc. My total damage was about
$5,000 and this was a very low speed "fender bender." I was at
fault, but my insurance did not go up because the accident was
considered routine and minor! No one was hurt and the SUV only
had minor damage, but the damage to my van was appalling, all
because there are no standards for bumper heights!)

About 4 years ago, my mom and I were in a 4 car pile up. It happened in
stop and go traffic, so Mom had come to a stop and then was rear ended
by a van. Since we were the lead car, we actually had very minimal
damage. The full size truck that started it all, had almost no damage,
but the old Honda Civic that it hit, was totaled. The back end was
totally crushed because the trucks bumper went right over the Civic's
bumper. The front end had only minimal damage, since that bumper hit
the van.
