Everything you say is true but to get into the media and
to start the discussion you have to make a story more compelling
than "if it bleeds it leads" mentality of the TV news.
That is why Walk San Jose was so effective in getting the pedestrian
message out. They staged protests that got on the local TV news.
Some times you need to "stand on the out side and throw rocks"
I wish we could have a rational discussion of what we could do
to make this nation and the planet better but most people switch
the TV to "Survivor".

The Hummer gets half the mileage of typical cars. Well, all
that means is one might need two trips to equal the
damage of the one hummer-owner's one trip. How many wasted
trips does the typical, for example, Suburu owner make?
So, sure, I hate Hummers as much as most people here. But eliminate
Hummers completely, and we're still killing the planet. Hummers
aren't what's clogging 101 when Caltrain runs only every 20 minutes
to an hour. Protesting Hummers isn't enough. More mirrors are needed.
