Dear Collegiate Cycling Team Leaders-
With great
pleasure, I attach the Collegiate Cycling mission statement. After substantial discussions
with conference directors, USA Cycling staff and many of you, especially at the meeting at Road Nationals dedicated
to this topic, the Board of Trustees unanimously and enthusiastically
approved this document in a recent meeting.
Both the process of generating the mission statement and the purpose
of the mission statement are important. The process was principally formal and informal
conversations among all the stakeholders in Collegiate Cycling. These
conversations are intrinsically a good thing: they enable the sharing
of ideas, the development of consensus and the creation of a common
purpose and the sense that we all share a set of core values and are
working together to advance the sport we love.
Naturally, the
purpose is also important. Plainly stated, the mission statement is a
succinct description of what Collegiate Cycling is about. It explains
our priorities to those who may be unfamiliar with us. And for those
in a leadership role in the sport such as you team leaders, it is a tool to enable you to prioritize ideas, make decisions, and ensure that we
all work in step with one another in the coming years.
Please
take a moment to review the mission statement. Virtually every word in the mission statement was carefully
chosen. If you have any questions about the mission statement, I or
any of the other trustees or your conference director would be pleased to talk about them with you. I hope you will use the mission statement hold yourselves, us, USA Cycling staff and other stakeholders accountable: if you experience something in Collegiate Cycling that is inconsistent with our mission statement, please bring it to the attention of your conference director, the Collegiate Cycling Manager, or a Collegiate Cycling trustee.
Very truly yours,
Nathan Drake
Chairman of the Board of Trustess of Collegiate Cycling
