Like everyone says, if you set down your groundrules at your first meeting, it will eliminate alot of that. Our STAB meets monthly and they all like to voice their opinions and as long as there's staff who can moderate we don't have problems. I've had a situation in the past where I've had to talk to one of our members privately because she was a senior member at the time and thought she could overrule people's opinions and that wasn't going to work. I explained to her that the different opinions makes up the uniqueness of the group and we all benefit hearing from each person. Call on members by name and ask them directly a question. Then ask for opinions. Our numbers differ each month but when we have a big group I ask questions then throw a piece of wadded up paper to someone and they're the one who has to answer. If they don't want to answer, they usually duck! Good luck with your group!

Hi, All:
Please excuse the cross-posting.
I am new to running a TAG, and I have a bit of a dilemma. Our TAG is
predominantly high schoolers. We have one girl who is an extremely
dominant personality; she speaks for the whole group, talks throughout
the meeting with her friends about whatever she wants to talk about and
is sarcastic and somewhat disrespectful to me. We also have a young man
who likes to play the rebel and mouth off.
I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions/ideas for dealing
with a situation like this? I have some ideas, but I'd like to hear
from people with actual experience.
Thanks!
