Well, I did a harry potter party a few years ago, and we did a 'potions'
class, where the children made their own potions out of everyday
ingredients with new magical labels. For example:

Turnip Greens= Gillyweed

Pwd. Lemonade= Pwd. Unicorn Horn

Mini Choc. Chips= gnats

Choc Chips= flies

Ketchup= dragons blood

We also did a dueling club, and we had the other guests decide who's
spell was pronounced correctly and first. Wasn't as huge a hit. We
also made wands for ourselves out of straws and cork for handles...fun,
but also not overly enthusiastic. The potions class was by far the most
popular. Word to the wise though, someone has to taste the potions to
vote them most refreshing, most revolting, etc. :-p bleh!

This year, I am doing a harry potter movie marathon in November for the
release of HPDH part 1. I'd love to hear other ideas!

I know we've all seen this post before, but if you've done a Harry
Potter-themed party at your library, please sound off. What events did
you do, what types of food, crafts, decorations did you use? Thoughts
for newbies to this type of party/lessons learned greatly appreciated.
I'd be happy to send a compilation on to the group. Much thanks!
