Hey Everyone,

I was skating this morning with a friend at Canada Rd, parked next to where
we start the 50K DB series. Her passenger window was smashed, and purse was
stolen from under her seat. The CD's and everything else was untouched. Her
older, inexpensive car was parked alone next to my newer BMW which was
untouched. We Guess her purse strings were visible under the seats from
outside the window.

The Sheriff did inform us that there is a rash of car break ins at Canada
rd, and sawyer camp trail. They have 4 of people under arrest, some are
headed for jail. Some have been prosecuted due to other peoples
observations in the parking area. They are targeting credit cards, not the
cash or anything else Then shopping nearby like Home Depot and charging as
much as they can. Home Depot has been helpful at giving video tapes to
assist in prosecution. These thieves do observe people to see if they stash
things before heading out for exercise. It is more common that they will
pop the locks out instead of smashing the window. He said the Trunk is not
that much harder to get into then the passenger compartment.

Some advice he said was to be less observed stashing your things before
leaving your car. I would add, Don't let any valuables be able to be seen
from the outside, or be observed being placed in the trunk., Take a look
around at the other cars, and the surroundings for people who don't fit in.
There is a rash of theft right now. Any car no matter what it looks like is
at risk.

The sheriff was prompt, and helpful at responding to our call. They seem
like they are trying, and effective at catching some people. Helping
yourself by paying attention is probably much more effective.

Ken
