List Name A list for information and action on 'anti-terrorism' laws in Australia. (TerrorLaws)
Purpose: A list for information and action on the government's 'anti-terrorism' laws in Australia. This list seeks to highlight the impact of ‘new and existing’ anti-terror legislation on civil rights. In particular, the laws:

* give ASIO powers of arrest and detention for more than 48 hours without the
right to legal representation and removal of the right to silence when under questioning;

* create terrorist offences and related legislation violating
rights to silence and legal representation, as well as freedom of expression, assembly and association;

* remove privacy rights and increase powers for government to freeze and seize an organisation's assets, and place communications under surveillance.
