Nortel LearniT Everyday Technology Toolkit  Amelia Sullivan
 Jan 30, 2009 08:02 PST

My name is Amelia Sullivan and I work with Nortel LearniT, an
educational non-profit based out of Washington, D.C. I am writing you
today to tell you a little bit about us as a company as well as our most
recent resource created by our staff. Nortel LearniT is an initiative of
Nortel Community Relations to prepare teachers, students, and learners
of all ages to develop 21st century skills that will provide a basis for
their ongoing engagement in learning and personal achievement. I have
worked with Nortel LearniT throughout my high school and college
careers, helping to expand our resources and promoting our initiative in
the global community. Our website www.NortelLearniT.org hosts all of our
FREE resources and tools. Users are encouraged to create an account
giving them access to all of our tools.

The most recent initiaitive developed by the Nortel LearniT staff, is
the Everyday Technology Toolkit (ETT). The ETT site
http://www.techtoolkit.NortelLearnit.org is a project based site
encouraging educators and students alike to create short one to two
minute how-to videos about a piece of everyday technology. Here at
Nortel LearniT we call these videos, Tech'Splained videos because they
are seeking to quickly explain a technology gadget to the audience who
may or may not be unfamiliar or unable to use the product. The ETT site
provides users with an Overview video to brief them on the entire
project, topics to get them started thinking about ideas for their
video, the steps to complete the project, resources needed for the
project, a blog where users can participate in discussion or post their
ideas, and finally the existing videos created by the Nortel LearniT
staff. While the website provides users with every detail related to the
project, we also encourage educators to have their students expand on
the ideas or put their own twist on it. The attached press release
provides you with educator's reactions to the toolkit, as well as a more
in-depth look of the project.

I hope that you'll share this information with your audiences. Please
don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.
