New Search on the Block
Found this on World Start. It's neat. Hope it takes off. Janet
Search Me
http://www.searchme.com/
This is the neatest search engine I've come across in a long time! Even
though it's still in the private beta stage, they are giving everyone
instant access. Therefore, you will beta test the search engine as you
use it and your feedback will help shape its future!
So, how do you get started? Well, I'd start by watching the demo video.
It demonstrates how the search engine works, how you use it and how
nifty it really is! The video will also help you figure out if Search Me
is something that appeals to you and if it's something you would use or
not.
To begin using the search engine, type in your e-mail address and click
on the Get Started button. That will take you to the next page where you
will confirm your e-mail address, create a password, provide your name
(optional) and then click on the Register button. After all that, you're
registered!
You'll now be in the Before You Get Started section. Here you'll find
five tips from the Search Me team. Follow the link to the private beta,
which is the search engine's page. Now, think of something you want to
search for. I was eating pistachios at the time, so that's what I looked
up!
Once you've entered in your query, you'll find your results under the
Everything category. You'll also see some helpful tips on the left side
of the page. To narrow down your search, you can select to filter the
results with one of the categories at the top of the page. I chose Blogs
from the choices, because I was curious to see if people have written
about pistachios in their blogs. What I found was a very interesting
idea for pistachio marzipan cinnamon rolls. Very intriguing!
I love the fact that this is a visual search engine and you can see the
actual Web pages as you flip through your results. It's like sitting
down with a magazine of search results on your topic!
I'd love to see this search engine grow and become mainstream! Check it
out today. I really don't think you'll be disappointed!

{{{ TODAY'S GRIPE }}}
With a Cable DVR box and TVO, a person can record two programs at one
time. Last year ABC began running its primetime TV programs 61 minutes
which means you need to watch ABC the extra minute to get the end of the
program; but by doing so you miss out on the beginning of a show that
comes on the following hour on any other station. They think by
extending the program an extra minute you will watch the following ABC
program rather than change to NBC or CBS.
This extra minute prevents me from recording two programs when I'm
watching the DVR and more importantly I can only record one program when
I'm away from home as the DVR on Cable considers this "extra minute" a
program.
I have emailed ABC and told them if they didn't stop running the extra
minute I was not going to watch any of their programs. Now they're
running some of them two extra minutes.
(That'll teach you!--Tim)
As far as I know no station does this except ABC; but if they continue
to do this, NBC and CBS will follow suit and none of us will be able to
record (or watch) the shows we really like. If any of you are also
disgusted with this extra one or two minutes which prevent us from
having the "freedom" to record the shows we want to watch, I wish you
could also email ABC. If enough viewers complain they will have to cut
out the extra minute or two to accommodate all of us.
Thanks!

Tim says: I noticed that, too. But it doesn't matter. With that HUGE ABC
logo on the bottom-right part of the screen. I can't see the show
anyhow.
This might help, but probably not: you can set Tivo (or DVRs) "recording
options" to begin recording Xn minutes early or late.
Truth is, I've stopped watching Network programming. Period. But here's
ABC's CONTACK page on their site:

Good luck!

TODAY'S GROAN:
A man went into his shrink's office and says, "Doc, you have got to help
me! Every night I keep dreaming that I'm a sports car. The other night I
dreamed I was a Trans Am. Another night I dreamed I was an Alpha Romero.
Last night I dreamed I was a Porsche. What does all this mean?"
"Relax," says the doctor. "You're just having an auto-the-body
experience."
