   TODAY'S VOCABULARY LESSON
==================================

        -Making Words Stronger-

You can build your vocabulary by learning words that have the same
meaning as other words, but in a stronger way. This will also let you
express yourself in English more clearly and colorfully.

For example...

Filthy = very dirty
Spotless = very clean
Furious = very angry
Starved/famished = very hungry
Scorching = very hot
Gorgeous = very beautiful
Exhausted = very tired
Enormous/humongous = very large

Can you think of other examples of these kinds of words?

       TODAY'S IDIOM
==================================

      -MAKE A KILLING-

This sounds like some kind of violent act, but it's really a very good
thing. If you MAKE A KILLING, it means that you make a large amount of
money.

"My father MADE A KILLING in the stock market last year."

     TODAY'S GRAMMAR LESSON
==================================

-REMEMBER, FORGET, STOP, REGRET-

These four verbs are important because of the way their meanings chang
when we use a gerund (verb + -ing) or infinitive (to + verb).

The differences are related to the time and the order of events. For
example:

-REMEMBER-

Infinitive:
I remembered to call my mother.
(First I remembered. Then I called my mother.)

Gerund:
I remembered calling my mother.
(First I called my mother. Then I remembered it.)

-FORGET-

Infinitive:
I forgot to set my alarm clock.
(First I forgot. So I didn't wake up on time.)

Gerund:
I forgot setting my alarm clock.
(First I set my alarm clock. Then I forgot that I set it.)

-STOP-

Infinitive:
I stopped to rest.
(First I stopped. Then I rested.)
.
Gerund:
I stopped resting.
(First I was resting. Then I stopped resting.)

-REGRET-

Infinitive:
I regret to tell you that your grandmother died this morning.
(First I regretted it. Then I told you.)

Gerund:
I regret telling you that your grandmother died this morning.
(First I told you. Then I regretted it.)

Can you write more sentences using these verbs in the gerund and
infinitive forms?

     TODAY'S JOKE
==================================

     -THE AIRLINE MEAL-

It was mealtime on a small airline and the flight
attendant asked the passenger if he would like dinner.

"What are my choices?" he asked.

She replied, "Yes or No."

    TODAY'S TONGUE TWISTER

Practice your pronunciation with this tongue twister:

Who washed Washington's white woolen underwear
when Washington's washer woman went west?
