Level: All
LoLHumor.com is a very interesting and entertaining website. As the
name suggest, it is a humor site, but it also offers a selection of
riddles and food recipes. Since humor is one of the most difficult areas
of language learning, this site presents unlimited opportunities for
classroom discussion.
YOUR TURN:
Read some of these jokes. Do you understand why they are funny? If you
don't, ask your classmates or teacher if they can tell you why they're
funny. It might be because some of the words in the joke have more than
one meaning, or it could be something related to American culture. Now
think of a joke in your native language.
Then try to translate it into English. Is it still funny? It might be
difficult for other people to understand, if it's related to your
culture or your language. Finally, make up your own joke in English and
tell it to your teacher and some of your classmates. Did your joke make
your teacher and classmates laugh? If so, send it in to the webmaster
at lolhumor.com
Teachers, as mentioned, lolhumor.com has recipes, and riddles in
addition to a large selection of jokes. Recipes are great for teaching
process writing using sequence adverbs such as first,
next, then and after that. Riddles are also great because they foster
critical thinking and help students explore various ways that language
can be used.

TODAY'S JOKE
==================================
Unusual Order
A man walks into an insurance office and asks for a job.
"Sorry, we don't need anyone..." they replied.
"You can't afford not to hire me. I can sell anyone anything anytime!"
"Well, we have two prospects that no one has been able to sell. If you
can sell just one, then you have a job."
He was gone about two hours and returned and handed them two checks, one
for $25,000 and another for $50,000.
"How in the world did you do that?" they asked.
"I told you I'm the worlds best salesman, I can sell anyone anything,
anytime!"
"Did you get a urine sample?" they asked him.
"What's that?" he asked.
"Well, if you sell a policy over $20,000 the company requires a urine
sample.
Now take these two bottles and go back and get urine samples."
He was gone about 8 hours and the office was about to close, when in he
walks
in with two five gallon buckets, one in each hand. He sets the buckets
down and
reaches in his shirt pocket and produces two bottles of urine and sets
them on
the desk and says,
"Here's Mr. Jone's and this one is Mrs. Johnson's."
"That's good," they said, "but what's in those two buckets?"
"Well, I passed by the school house and they were having a state
teachers convention -
so I stopped and sold them a group policy!"

TODAY'S RIDDLE
==================================
This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious how quickly you can find out
what is so unusual about it? It looks so plain you would think nothing
was wrong with it! In fact, nothing is wrong with it!
It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may
not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out!
Try to do so without any coaching!
