cary,
im not a paid member but im on the email list. as far as an open lake swim
around here; i havent done any but i see they have a tri in belews lake so i
guess you could open water there. my other idea would be to check with parks
and rec about using a pool for an outdoor swim as they do in some short course
early season tris like at the mecklenburg aquatic center.
i am doing the indoor tri on the ninth. will the starting times be posted on
the site?

Everyone,
We have dates for the upcoming Summer Race Series. I've listed them
below. Participation has been lacking, to say the least, the past couple
of years, but we want to change that this year! First of all, we're
going to make the races "fair" for everyone, as best we can. Don't worry
if your slower, less experienced, etc, these races designed for everyone
and are supposed to be fun! The more people we have, the better. You
don't have to be a member of TTT to participate, so bring a friend, but
it will cost $5 for non members. Racers will earn points based on their
placement in each race. At the end of the "Series" the person with the
highest point total wins. You get bonus points for doing all of the
races, volunteering (designated TTT events), bringing extra
participants, and whatever else I deem important ;). We'll give out
prizes to the top point getters at the end of the year Christmas party.
Now, we're still missing a "swim" race, so if you know of an outdoor
open swim location, let me know!
Race #1: TTT Picinic/8k trail race, Gibson Park: May 18th ~4pm
Race will be based on a submitted 5k time. We'll start people from
slowest to fastest on the idea everyone finishes at the same time. I
call it "catch me if you can" race.
#2: Duathlon - Hagan Stone Park: June 11th ~7pm. This has been one of
the most popular races each year. It will be a 2mi run/9mi bike/2mi run.
We'll throw in an "equalizer" (age graded and/or gender) so that the
young speed demons stay in check!
#3: Last Man Standing Track Race: July 16th ~7pm (Greensboro Day's
track??) Back again after a couple year layoff. After a couple lap warm
up, we'll do 400m or 800m runs with the last person each circuit being
dropped until you have a winner. We'll probably do male and female
winners. Lots of strategy is involved since you don't have to waste all
of your energy coming in first each last...just as long as your not
last!
#4: Predict your 5K: August 12th ~7pm, Country Park. Basically, submit a
5K time, take off your watch, and see how close you come to your
submitted time. You can bust a run or simply walk..your choice as long
as you get as close as your submitted time as possible.
#5: Bike Time Trial per lb of body weight: Sept. 9th ~7pm Grandover. A
10 mile bike time trial with a twist. We'll weigh you before you start
and then divide your final time by your weight. Fastest person per pound
wins. This race can also be called "Clydesdale Delight." Now ladies, we
can and will keep your weight a secret, if you desire!
