I had a nice breakfast this morning with Roger Greuel (I finally can get the spelling of his name right!) Roger is here in Houston for the Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Brangus Breeders Association. Roger was a loadmaster at Pope in the 777th 66-70 and is on a number of my lists. We had a really good time talking about a number of things and looking at his pictures. Even though Roger was never PCS overseas, he got in on some of the good deals in Vietnam, particularly the drops in the A Shau Valley.
Roger went to work for Delta in Atlanta after he got out and lives in Fayette County, Georgia now. We finally figured out a Pope veteran that I ran into in the terminal one night in Atlanta after I got out. It was Melvin Edmondson, who was in air freight or aerial delivery in 3rd Aerial Port when I was there. I was eating breakfast in the terminal while between flights on the way to Nashville and Melvin came in and saw me. I couldn't remember his name. He was HUGE guy and I believe he was from Atlanta.
Even though this was the first time I had met Roger since he got to Pope a couple of months after I left for Naha, I feel like I've known him for awhile.
It truly is great to talk to fellow C-130/troop carrier vets.
