While I agree that Martin is a tosspot of the highest order for the
things he wrote in this article, I seriously doubt that there is any

endangerment in the national press. Especially not while test-driving a
brand-new car.
It looks to me that Martin WAS stupid enough to confess, and that's exactly what he's done. Unfortunately it is the way of the world that tosspots like Martin exist. There are plenty of them. I think Martin has made his confession in the mistaken belief that everyone thinks in the same warped way that he does. After the news, which must have come as a surprise to him, that that is not the case he has made his drivelling apology. Just an insincere drivelling apology in an attempt to cover his arse that does not contain one word of denial. The cyclists concerned may yet turn up. This is the first I have heard of this incident and it is indeed possible that the cyclists involved as yet know nothing of this. I wish good luck and good hunting to the CTC and their legal team.
My concern is that by taking what he said literally, and asking the
cyclists to get in touch (as opposed to taking the resounding silence as
an indication he was lying through his teeth in order to look tough) the
CTC is merely painting itself as a set of humourless, pedantic beardies.
I can well sympathise with the CTC if they are branded humourless (with or without beards and pedants) over this. I don't get Martins joke either.
In fact, I'm amazed no one has claimed to be one of those spandex
Spider-men, whether he really was or not.
Me too.
Barry.
