OCR is Optical Character Recognition. This is what programs like Open Book,
from Freedom Scientific, do. A flat bed scanner takes a picture of a sheet
of printed material, translates it into a file that is then able to be read
by blind people on their computers.
PDF is a Portable Document File. It is a commonly used file format that
businesses use. The files are small enough to be easily transferable
through the Internet and from business to business. You need a special
piece of software to access them.
