Greetings, fellow chess players,

Now that the September/October Tournament has ended, with
hearty congratulations to Victor Laramore as champion, it is
time to begin the November/December Tournament. Please join
me in my great experiment, my debut as Tournament Director.
As you may know, I love this great and noble game of chess,
and now I have the opportunity to promote it, as I help all
of us create an exciting and challenging contest. It will be
a 4-round Swiss tournament. In order to begin play as close
to November 1 as possible, I am asking all of you who are
interested in participating, and I hope there are many of
you, to reply by Sunday, October 25, no later than 3 pm
Eastern Time, that's 1900 Universal Time. You may
contact me either by posting to the FTP chess email list at

I, also, most eagerly welcome those of you who have never
played in an FTP chess tournament. I encourage players of
all levels, beginners to advanced, to join us. All I ask is
that you arrange to meet with me in the FTP chess parlor so
that we can review the few simple procedures for tournament
play. That may sound intimidating, but it is really a great
deal of fun. That is the first and foremost tournament rule,
to have fun. I certainly have! If you are not already an FTP
member, please go to the FTP homepage at

and click on the link that says, "join." There
you will find a simple form to fill out and submit. After
you receive the approval email with your user name and
password, you will be able to enter the chess parlor on the
chat rooms page. I suggest that you register within a day or
two, in order to allow time for being approved, so that you
can first meet with me, and then enter the tournament on
time.

I happily look forward to hearing from you, and I always
welcome any feedback.
