Werst,
Cyclist, Friend, Fine Fellow, Great Athlete and
now person in need
Many of you know Jason from his time racing in the Colors of the
former IMT/Title One Team and this year in the Orange of
Intermountain Orthopaedics/LRCC. Jason is a former All-American
track Athlete from Eastern Oregon University.
From The Family of Jason and Jessica Werst
Lorraine & Ava Taylor, Troy Tillman and Etta Weatherup
Dear Friends,
On January 18, 2007 Jason was diagnosed with
<http://www.marrow.org/PATIENT/Undrstnd_Disease_Treat/Lrn_about_Disease/AML/index.html>AML
(acute Myelogenous Leukemia). This was two months after his a
Jessica's November 11, 2006 wedding while they were settling into
their new home located in Nampa, Idaho, eagerly anticipating their
future as newlyweds.
He successfully underwent chemotherapy and by July 2007 was in remission.
Now the Leukemia has returned and Jason is scheduled to undergo a
stem cell transplant on October 14, 2008. The day before, on
October 13, 2008 he will be inducted into
<http://www.frontierconference.com/article/735.php>The Eastern
Oregon University Athletic Hall of Fame.
He and Jessica will be in Seattle where he is to report to the on
September 4, 2o08 for the preliminary tests, procedures, and
treatments necessary for the transplant to take place in October.
The past two years have been incredibly challenging for the Wersts',
emotionally, physically and financially. The prayers, support and
encouragement of friends and family have been greatly appreciated by
Jason and Jessica. We now have another way to support them. Besides
the risks associated with the stem cell transplant procedure, it is
costly and insurance will not cover all their expenses. The nearest
estimate of uninsured expenses will be in excess of $30,000.
Any donation will help. Your donation of $500.00 would pay for two
weeks of rent on their apartment in Seattle. A donation of $100.00
would buy them a couple weeks of food. A donation of $50.00 would
pay for a couple weeks of gas. Any donation would be most
appreciated. These kids will be living in Seattle for almost six
months. They will be living only on Jason's disability and having
to pay for all their bill and house payment here in Nampa plus their
apartment and expenses in Seattle.
As friends of Jessica and Jason, their family, friends, and
associates, we know you will continue to offer your prayers and
encouragement during this difficult time. However, we can also help
them financially. A fundraising campaign has been established with
the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF) for contributions to
help offset their financial burden of uninsured medical costs. NTAF
is a nonprofit organization that has been helping the transplant
community for over twenty years.
If you are able to make a tax-deductible contribution:
