3: MAIL CALL

Hi Bob,
My name is Glenn Foster, I served aboard the USS Monticello from
1974-1975. I just discovered your web site recently and was thrilled to
see it. I was looking through the pictures and was surprised to see
pictures of myself that I din't know existed.
I signed up on the "Deck Log" and I am enclosing a check for "Life
Membership" for myself.
Bob, thanks for the great web site, I know how much hard work you have
done yourslf and just wanted to let you know your hard work os
appreciated.
Respectfully, Glenn Foster

Thank you so very much for putting the Monticello reunion together. It
was a great idea and an even greater event! Going into to it we felt ike
many others; we won't know anyone. But, the bond of the men and the boat
was all it took.
We made new acquaitences and are looking forward to Branson.
In July we were in Bremerton, WA and tried to get a harbor tour to the
maothball fleet. It is no longer in service. A new Naval museum is in
the works though.
We appreciate the time, organization and money that went into the
reunion. Hope to see you in Branson, Missouri.

My Father Served In the Monticello
His Name Is Louis G. Villa,He was a CPO and an Engineer, I dont KNow the
proper designations for what he was really, maybe you remember him, I
have seen the picture of Phyllis in a box of old photos he had but he
would never tell me her name, I had always thought she was a real woman
untill I found the box of pictures in our attic and really took a good
look at them, I just recently sent the pictures to him, and told his
wife to ask him about the girly on board, I'd like to hear some stories
about him if you know any or remember him, he doesn't talk much about
his days in the navy.

Thank you and Best Regards,

Bill Chadwick BM1 USNR-Retired. "A must read for any Sailor from the
50's, 60's, or early 70's. We have all met a chief like Jake Richmeyer,
Bo'sun or otherwise. This story will bring back great old memories (and
maybe some not so great), but I heartily recommend this book. I couldn't
put it down. The ending was a surprise, but did ring true. Many of the
other Sailors in this book could have come from guys I knew during my 7
years of active duty and 18 years in the reserves. Non-Sailors will get
a real feel for what Navy life is really like."

Boatswain's Mate, the novel, is now featured on the websites of several
destroyer associations as recommended reading. The book is available on
the internet at http://www.amazon.com

bookstores on order. Just click on any website and type Boatswain's Mate
in the search box.
Or call 1-301-695-1707 the publisher has a discount off the cover price
right now, they'll mail right to your door.

8. REPLACEMENT MEDALS

We've been asked, "how can I replace my or my parent's military medals,
ribbons and other awards?" It's simple, really. Just complete a short,
simple form and mail it off to the address provided on the form. You'll
receive your medals, ribbons, available awards and a copy of your
records from the military.

The instructions and required form are available to VetFriends.com
Lifetime, Platinum & Gold Members under the link "Military Record
Requests".

To begin log into your account on VetFriends.com at
www.vetfriends.com/login.cfm and click on the "Military Record Requests"
link.
The Records Center normally responds to requests for Separation
Documents (such as DD Form 214) in ten working days or less. However,
requests that involve reconstruction efforts due to the 1973 fire or
older records which require extensive search efforts may take much
longer. You will receive a response in writing by U.S. Mail. Once you
receive those medals, you'll be glad you sent in the form!

Have a great week!

10. SITE OF THE MONTH

This website was sent in by BM3 John Huard 1968-1972.
There are plenty of weather sites on the Web. They're full of detailed
information, such as dew points, barometer readings, temperature, wind
speed and radar screens.
Today's site does all of that and more.
There are forecast maps, aviation maps and computer model maps. Check
out the personal weather stations, too. Who knows? Maybe someone down
the street is collecting weather data.
If you want to know anything about the weather, it’s here.
